亞哈自卑於我前、爾見之乎、因其自卑於我前、故其尚存之日、我不降以此災、迨及其子之時、乃降災於其家、

末底改既知此事、自裂其衣、衣麻蒙塵、遍行城中、大聲哀號痛哭、至御門前乃止、因衣麻者不得入御門、王之詔命所至之各州各地、猶大人俱大哀痛、禁食、哭泣、悲號、衣麻蒙塵者甚眾、后以斯帖之侍女及宦官來、以此事告之、后甚驚惶、甚驚惶或作甚憂送衣於末底改衣之、欲其去麻衣、末底改不受、

王聞婦言、則裂其衣、行於城上、民見王衣內衣粗麻、

凡祈禱於此所者、我目必垂顧、我耳必俯聽、今我已選此殿、使之成聖、使我名永在其中、我目我心亦恆在其中、

約百遂起、裂衣薙首、伏地拜曰、我裸身出母胎、亦裸身歸土、賜之者主、取之者亦主、當頌美主之名、

是日有便雅憫人自陣而逃、其衣撕裂、其首蒙塵、遁至示羅、

我聞此事、自裂裹衣與外袍、拔髮與鬚、抑鬱而坐、

彼眾患病、我則穿麻衣、禁食刻苦、俯首向懷、切切禱告、

禍哉爾哥拉汛乎、禍哉爾伯賽大乎、蓋在爾中所施之異能、若施於推羅西頓、彼早衣麻蒙灰而悔改矣、

以色列王閱書畢、自裂其衣、對群臣曰、彼遣人至、欲我醫其癩、我豈為神、能使人死生乎、爾且思之、彼尋攻我之隙可知矣、

王與其諸臣聽此諸言、竟不畏懼、亦不裂衣、

俱當衣麻、切切懇籲天主、各改其惡行、改其惡行原文作離其惡途下同勿復行強暴、
