The Lord had driven out other nations to make room for Israel. But they followed the evil practices of those nations. They also followed the practices that the kings of Israel had started.

卻效法以色列諸王所行的，又照着耶和華從以色列人面前趕出的外邦人所行可憎的事，使他的兒子經火，

以法蓮因樂從人的命令，就受欺壓，被審判壓碎。

亞哈斯王上大馬士革去迎接亞述王提革拉‧毗列色，在大馬士革看見一座壇，就照壇的規模樣式作法畫了圖樣，送到祭司烏利亞那裏。

因為你守暗利的惡規，行亞哈家一切所行的，順從他們的計謀；因此，我必使你荒涼，使你的居民令人嗤笑，你們也必擔當我民的羞辱。

耶羅波安王就籌劃定妥，鑄造了兩個金牛犢，對眾民說：「以色列人哪，你們上耶路撒冷去實在是難；這就是領你們出埃及地的神。」

耶和華如此說：你們不要效法列國的行為，也不要為天象驚惶，因列國為此事驚惶。

就照耶和華在以色列人面前所趕出的亞摩利人，行了最可憎惡的事，信從偶像。）

在你們以先居住那地的人行了這一切可憎惡的事，地就玷污了，）免得你們玷污那地的時候，地就把你們吐出，像吐出在你們以先的國民一樣。無論甚麼人，行了其中可憎的一件事，必從民中剪除。所以，你們要守我所吩咐的，免得你們隨從那些可憎的惡俗，就是在你們以先的人所常行的，以致玷污了自己。我是耶和華－你們的神。」

瑪拿西行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕出的外邦人所行可憎的事。

反與他們混雜相合，學習他們的行為，

犯了尼八的兒子耶羅波安所犯的罪；他還以為輕，又娶了西頓王謁巴力的女兒耶洗別為妻，去事奉敬拜巴力，在撒馬利亞建造巴力的廟，在廟裏為巴力築壇。亞哈又做亞舍拉，他所行的惹耶和華－以色列神的怒氣，比他以前的以色列諸王更甚。

猶大人也不遵守耶和華－他們神的誡命，隨從以色列人所立的條規。

那時就要謹慎，不可在他們除滅之後隨從他們的惡俗，陷入網羅，也不可訪問他們的神說：『這些國民怎樣事奉他們的神，我也要照樣行。』你不可向耶和華－你的神這樣行，因為他們向他們的神行了耶和華所憎嫌所恨惡的一切事，甚至將自己的兒女用火焚燒，獻與他們的神。
