亞哈斯王拆掉盆座的鑲板，搬走盆，將銅海從銅牛背上搬下來，放在鋪石的地上。為了亞述王，他挪走耶和華殿裡為安息日而蓋的走廊，封閉了王從外面進耶和華殿的入口。

希西迦將耶和華殿裡和王宮庫房裡的所有銀子都給了他，又刮下他包在耶和華殿門和門柱上的金子，一併送去。

亞述王提革拉·毗列色來到猶大後，不但不救他，反而壓迫他。亞哈斯從耶和華的殿裡、王宮和官員家中取財寶送給亞述王，但無濟於事。

於是，亞撒收集耶和華殿裡和王宮庫房裡的金銀，派人送給住在大馬士革的亞蘭王便·哈達，說：

我要差來亞述王的軍隊，使他們像幼發拉底河的洪流一樣洶湧而來，淹沒一切水道，漫過河岸，席捲猶大，使整個猶大幾遭滅頂之災。他必展開雙翼橫掃你的土地。」願上帝與我們同在！

他們挖了陷阱，卻自陷其中。他們的惡行臨到自己頭上，他們的暴力落到自己腦殼上。

「之後，耶和華必讓亞述王來攻擊你們。這是你全家及你的人民自以色列與猶大分裂以來從未有的日子。
