撒母耳把國法對眾人述說了，又記在書上，存放在耶和華面前，然後遣散眾人，各回自己的家去了。

現在我心中有意要和耶和華以色列的神立約，好使他的震怒轉離我們。

其餘的民眾：祭司、利未人、守門的、歌唱的、作殿役的，以及一切跟各地民族分離，歸向神律法的和他們的妻子和兒女，所有有知識能夠明白的，都堅持和他們的貴族兄弟參與發咒起誓，必遵行神藉他僕人摩西頒布的律法，必謹守遵行耶和華我們的主的一切誡命、典章和律例；

政府的權柄，人人都應當服從。因為沒有一樣權柄不是從神來的；掌權的都是神設立的。所以抗拒掌權的，就是反對神所設立的；反對的人必自招刑罰。執政的不是要使行善的懼怕，而是要使作惡的懼怕。你想不怕掌權的嗎？只要行善，就會得到稱讚；因為他是神的僕役，是對你有益的。但如果你作惡，就應當懼怕；因為他佩劍，不是沒有作用的。他是神的僕役，是向作惡的人施行刑罰的。所以你們必須服從，不但是因為刑罰，也是因為良心的緣故。因此，你們也當納稅，因為他們是神的差役，專責處理這事的。

在第七年，耶何耶大派人把迦利人和衛兵的眾百夫長帶來，領他們進入耶和華的殿中，和他們立約，使他們在耶和華的殿裡起誓，然後把王子帶出來和他們見面。

他們超過了我們所期望的，照著神的旨意，先把自己獻給主，然後獻給我們。

於是以色列的眾長老都來到希伯崙見大衛王，大衛就在希伯崙，在耶和華面前與他們立約，他們就按照耶和華藉著撒母耳所說的話，膏立大衛作王治理以色列。

耶何耶大與眾民和王立約，要他們作耶和華的子民。

這些是耶和華在摩押地，吩咐摩西與以色列人所立的約的話，是耶和華和他們在何烈山所立的約以外的。（本節在《馬索拉文本》為28:69）摩西把以色列眾人召了來，對他們說：“耶和華在埃及地，在你們面前，向法老和他的眾臣僕，以及他的全國所行的一切，你們都看見了，（本節在《馬索拉文本》為29:1）就是你親眼見過的大試驗和神蹟，以及那些大奇事；但是直到今日，耶和華還沒有給你們一顆能明白的心，能看見的眼睛，能聽見的耳朵。我在曠野四十年之久領導你們；你們身上的衣服沒有穿破，腳上的鞋也沒有穿壞。飯你們沒有吃，清酒或烈酒你們沒有喝，這是要使你們知道耶和華是你們的神。你們來到了這地方，希實本王西宏和巴珊王噩就出來，與我們交戰，我們擊敗了他們。奪取了他們的地，分給流本人、迦得人和瑪拿西半個支派作產業。所以你們要謹守這約的話，並且遵行，好使你們在所行的一切事上都亨通。“今日你們全都站在耶和華你們的神面前；你們的首領、族長、長老、官長和以色列所有的男子，你們的小孩、妻子和在你營中的寄居者，以及為你們劈柴挑水的人，都站在耶和華你們的神面前，為要叫你遵守耶和華你的神今日與你所立的約，和他向你所起的誓；這樣，他今日可以立你作他的子民，他可以作你的神，正如他曾經對你說過的，又對你的列祖亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各起過誓的。“我不但與你們立這約，起這誓；而且也與那些今日和我們在這裡，一同站在耶和華我們的神面前的人，以及那些今日不與我們同在這裡的人立這約，起這誓。

他們就說：“我們必定歸還，不再向他們要求利息了，你怎麼說，我們願意照著你說的去行。”我就把祭司們召了來，叫眾人起誓必照著這話去行。我抖著胸前的衣襟說：“不履行這話的，願神也是這樣抖他離開他的家和產業，直到抖空。”全體會眾都說：“阿們！”又讚美耶和華。眾人都照著這話去行。

現在由於這一切事，我們立下確實的約，寫在文件上；我們的領袖、利未人和祭司，都在上面蓋了印。”（本節在《馬索拉文本》為10:1）

耶和華我們的神在何烈山與我們立了約。這約，耶和華不是與我們的列祖立的，而是與我們今日在這裡還活著的人立的。
