Then he sent an army captain with fifty soldiers to arrest him. They found him sitting on top of a hill. The captain said to him,“ Man of God, the king has commanded you to come down with us.”

Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him,“ Man of God, the king says,‘ Come down!’”

The king sent a captain and his fifty soldiers to retrieve Elijah. The captain went up to him, while he was sitting on the top of a hill. He told him,“ Prophet, the king says,‘ Come down!’”

Then the king sent a captain of fifty with his fifty to him. He went up to him; and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. He said to him,“ Man of God, the king has said,‘ Come down!’”

“ Go and find out where he is,” the king commanded,“ so I can send troops to seize him.” And the report came back:“ Elisha is at Dothan.”So one night the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and horses to surround the city.

Then Amaziah sent orders to Amos:“ Get out of here, you prophet! Go on back to the land of Judah, and earn your living by prophesying there!

The people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery.“ Ha! Look at you now!” they yelled at him.“ You said you were going to destroy the Temple and rebuild it in three days.

The king of Israel replied to Jehoshaphat,“ There is one more man who could consult the Lord for us, but I hate him. He never prophesies anything but trouble for me! His name is Micaiah son of Imlah.” Jehoshaphat replied,“ That’s not the way a king should talk! Let’s hear what he has to say.”

Once when Jezebel had tried to kill all the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had hidden 100 of them in two caves. He put fifty prophets in each cave and supplied them with food and water.)

Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons.

Let this Messiah, this King of Israel, come down from the cross so we can see it and believe him!” Even the men who were crucified with Jesus ridiculed him.

jeering,“ Prophesy to us, you Messiah! Who hit you that time?”

“ Arrest him!” the king of Israel ordered.“ Take him back to Amon, the governor of the city, and to my son Joash.Give them this order from the king:‘ Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water until I return safely from the battle!’”

At this, the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to discuss what to do with him.One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.

The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the elders also mocked Jesus.“ He saved others,” they scoffed,“ but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”

So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah:“ May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow I have not killed you just as you killed them.”

They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted,“ Hail! King of the Jews!”

For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias( the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).

So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees.

For I swear by the Lord your God that the king has searched every nation and kingdom on earth from end to end to find you. And each time he was told,‘ Elijah isn’t here,’ King Ahab forced the king of that nation to swear to the truth of his claim.
