Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him,“ Man of God, the king says,‘ Come down!’”

Then Ahaziah sent a captain to Elijah. The captain had his group of 50 fighting men with him. Elijah was sitting on top of a hill. The captain went up to him. He said to Elijah,“ Man of God, the king says,‘ Come down!’ ”

“ Go, find out where he is,” the king ordered,“ so I can send men and capture him.” The report came back:“ He is in Dothan.”Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city.

Then Amaziah said to Amos,“ Get out, you seer! Go back to the land of Judah. Earn your bread there and do your prophesying there.

Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying,“ So! You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days,

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat,“ There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”“ The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.

While Jezebel was killing off the Lord’s prophets, Obadiah had taken a hundred prophets and hidden them in two caves, fifty in each, and had supplied them with food and water.)

Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.

Let this Messiah, this king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe.” Those crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

and said,“ Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?”

The king of Israel then ordered,“ Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s sonand say,‘ This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’”

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.

In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him.“ He saved others,” they said,“ but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said,‘ I am the Son of God.’”

So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say,“ May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them.”

and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head. They put a staff in his right hand. Then they knelt in front of him and mocked him.“ Hail, king of the Jews!” they said.

Now Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,

So Ahab went off to eat and drink, but Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees.

As surely as the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my master has not sent someone to look for you. And whenever a nation or kingdom claimed you were not there, he made them swear they could not find you.
