我不是為定你們的罪而說的。我已經說過，你們在我們心頭、直可同死同活。

I do not say this to condemn you; I have said before that you have such a place in our hearts that we would live or die with you.

哥林多人哪，我們向你們是口直口快；我們的心乃寬宏大量。你們褊狹不在於我們；是你們心腸褊狹。

路得說：『不要催我離開你而回去、不跟着你；你往哪裏去，我也往哪裏去；你在哪裏住宿，我也在哪裏住宿；你的族人就是我的族人；你的上帝就是我的上帝；你在哪裏死，我也在哪裏死，也埋葬在哪裏；除了死以外，若有甚麼使你我相分離，願永恆主這樣懲罰我，並且加倍地懲罰。』

上帝給我作證，我是怎樣以基督耶穌的熱心腸切慕着你們眾人的。我所禱告的是要你們的愛心充盈而又滿溢，滿有真認識和各樣的審察力，

故此我和你們不同在時寫了這些話，好讓我和你們同在時不必照主所賜給我、那為建立而不為攻倒、的權柄、嚴厲地措置。

所以我雖然寫信給你們，卻不是為那冤枉人的，也不是為那受冤枉的，無非是要把你們因顧念我們而表示的熱切、在上帝面前向你們指明出來罷了。

為甚麼呢？是因為我不愛你們麼？上帝知道。

你們、就是我們的書信，寫在我們心上，給眾人所知道所誦讀的。

我因了大苦難和心裏的困苦、流許多眼淚地寫信給你們，不是要讓你們憂愁，乃是要叫你們知道我是怎樣格外地疼愛你們。但若有讓人憂愁的，他不單讓我憂愁，也讓你們眾人、至少一部分人憂愁，免得我說的太重。

我寫這些話、不是要叫你們羞愧，乃是要勸戒你們、像我親愛的兒女一樣。在基督裏、你們縱然有上萬的童年導師，父親卻不多；因為是我在基督耶穌裏、藉着福音生了你們。

論到我嘛、我頂喜歡地為你們開費，以至於費盡了我自己。是不是我越發愛你們，就該越發少得你們的愛呢？

我們既然這樣戀慕你們，就不但樂意將上帝的福音分給你們，連我們自己的性命也樂意分給你們，因為你們已成了我們所疼愛的了。
