我这样说，不是要定你们的罪，因为我从前说过，你们常在我们心里，甚至可以同生共死。

哥林多人哪！我们对你们，口是坦率的，心是宽宏的。并不是我们对你们器量小，而是你们自己心胸狭窄。

路得说：“请不要逼我离开你回去，不跟从你。你到哪里去，我也要到哪里去；你在哪里过夜，我也要在哪里过夜；你的同胞就是我的同胞，你的神就是我的神；你死在哪里，我也要死在哪里，葬在哪里。除非死亡把你我分离；如果我离开你，愿耶和华加倍惩罚我。”

我是怎样以基督耶稣的心肠，切切地想念你们众人，这是神可以为我作证的。我所祷告的，是要你们的爱心，在充足的知识和各样的见识上，多而又多，

因此，我趁着不在你们那里的时候，把这些话写给你们，到我来了，就不必凭着主所给我的权柄严厉地对待你们。这权柄不是要拆毁你们，而是要建立你们。

因此，从前我虽然写过信给你们，却不是为了那亏负人的，也不是为了那受害的，而是在神面前把你们对我们的热情，向你们显现出来。

为什么呢？是我不爱你们吗？神是知道的。

你们就是我们的荐信，写在我们的心里，是众人所认识所诵读的，

我从前心里痛苦难过，流着眼泪写信给你们，并不是要使你们忧愁，而是要你们知道我是多么爱你们。如果有人使人忧愁，他不是使我忧愁，而是使你们众人都有一点忧愁；我只说有一点，是避免说得过分。

我写这些话，不是要叫你们羞愧，而是把你们当作我亲爱的儿女一样劝戒你们。纵然你们在基督里有上万的启蒙教师，可是父亲却不多，因为是我在基督耶稣里藉着福音生了你们。

至于我，我甘心乐意为你们的灵魂付上一切，鞠躬尽瘁。难道我越爱你们，就越得不到你们的爱吗？

我们这样疼爱你们，不但乐意把神的福音传给你们，连自己的性命也乐意给你们，因为你们是我们所爱的。
