We don’t give up when we are beaten or put in prison. When people stir up trouble in the streets, we continue to serve God. We work hard for him. We go without sleep and food.

And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way.For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Diana, brought no small profit to the craftsmen.He called them together with the workers of similar occupation, and said:“ Men, you know that we have our prosperity by this trade.Moreover you see and hear that not only at Ephesus, but throughout almost all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are not gods which are made with hands.So not only is this trade of ours in danger of falling into disrepute, but also the temple of the great goddess Diana may be despised and her magnificence destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worship.”Now when they heard this, they were full of wrath and cried out, saying,“ Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”So the whole city was filled with confusion, and rushed into the theater with one accord, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, Macedonians, Paul’s travel companions.And when Paul wanted to go in to the people, the disciples would not allow him.Then some of the officials of Asia, who were his friends, sent to him pleading that he would not venture into the theater.Some therefore cried one thing and some another, for the assembly was confused, and most of them did not know why they had come together.And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander motioned with his hand, and wanted to make his defense to the people.But when they found out that he was a Jew, all with one voice cried out for about two hours,“ Great is Diana of the Ephesians!”

But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

Know that our brother Timothy has been set free, with whom I shall see you if he comes shortly.

Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained.

This I also did in Jerusalem, and many of the saints I shut up in prison, having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them.

And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;

So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.

And when they saw the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.Then the commander came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and he asked who he was and what he had done.And some among the multitude cried one thing and some another. So when he could not ascertain the truth because of the tumult, he commanded him to be taken into the barracks.When he reached the stairs, he had to be carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob.

Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him because of this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Then Jews from Antioch and Iconium came there; and having persuaded the multitudes, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing him to be dead.

Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.

Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him,

For you remember, brethren, our labor and toil; for laboring night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God.

Then, as they cried out and tore off their clothes and threw dust into the air,the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks, and said that he should be examined under scourging, so that he might know why they shouted so against him.

For Herod had laid hold of John and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.

So he sent and had John beheaded in prison.

Forty blows he may give him and no more, lest he should exceed this and beat him with many blows above these, and your brother be humiliated in your sight.

For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles—

It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming— in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning—lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”

For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of our trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life.Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead,who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us,

But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Moreover the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

And Paul said,“ I would to God that not only you, but also all who hear me today, might become both almost and altogether such as I am, except for these chains.”

and say,‘ Thus says the king:“ Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I come in peace.”’”

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king’s son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.

When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the judgment seat,saying,“ This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you.But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.”And he drove them from the judgment seat.Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. But Gallio took no notice of these things.

To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless.

Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God,

And Jesus said to them,“ Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

he said,“ I will hear you when your accusers also have come.” And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s Praetorium.

For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

“ Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:

But after two years Porcius Festus succeeded Felix; and Felix, wanting to do the Jews a favor, left Paul bound.

So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.
