I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I will not spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others,

I warned those who sinned before and all the others, and I warn them now while absent, as I did when present on my second visit, that if I come again I will not spare them—

我呼求神给我作证，我没有再到哥林多来，是要宽容你们。

主把权柄赐给我们，是为了要造就你们，不是要破坏你们，就算我为这权柄夸口过分了一点，也不会觉得惭愧。不要以为我写信是用来吓你们。因为有人说：“他的信又严厉又强硬，他本人却其貌不扬，言语粗俗。”说这话的人要想一想，我们不在你们那里的时候，信上怎样写，我们来到的时候也会怎样作。

我保罗与你们见面的时候是谦卑的，不在你们那里的时候，却是放胆的。现在我亲自以基督的谦逊温柔劝你们，求你们使我在你们那里的时候，不要满有自信地放胆对你们，我认为要以这样的自信，勇敢地对付那些以为我们是照着世俗的标准（“世俗的标准”原文作“肉体”）行事的人。

我怕我来的时候，见你们不如我所想的，你们见我也不如你们所想的。又怕有纷争、嫉妒、恼怒、自私、毁谤、谗言、狂傲、混乱的事。又怕我再来的时候，我的神使我在你们面前羞愧；并且我要为许多从前犯罪的人哀痛，因为他们行了污秽、奸淫、邪荡的事，却不肯悔改。

然而主若愿意，我很快就要到你们那里去；到时我要知道的，不是那些自高自大的人所讲的，而是他们的能力。因为神的国不在乎言语，而在乎权能。你们愿意怎么样呢？要我带着刑杖到你们那里去，还是以温柔的灵，带着爱心去呢？

因此，我趁着不在你们那里的时候，把这些话写给你们，到我来了，就不必凭着主所给我的权柄严厉地对待你们。这权柄不是要拆毁你们，而是要建立你们。

要把这样的人交给撒但，败坏他的身体，使他的灵魂在主的日子可以得救。
