雖我愈愛爾、愈不見爾愛我、我仍為爾靈魂、甘於費財盡己、

吾為爾等靈魂之故、固不惜任何之犧牲、即犧牲本身、亦所甘心。豈吾之愛爾愈厚、而爾之愛我愈薄耶？

So, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own lives, because you had become dear to us.

I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up in my flesh what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ, for the sake of His body, which is the church,

Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

Now if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

You observe days and months and seasons and years.

Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom,“ Now let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue David tonight.I will come upon him while he is weary and weak, and make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee, and I will strike only the king.Then I will bring back all the people to you. When all return except the man whom you seek, all the people will be at peace.”And the saying pleased Absalom and all the elders of Israel.

Now for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be burdensome to you; for I do not seek yours, but you. For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

( as also you have understood us in part), that we are your boast as you also are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus.

And He said to me,“ My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus:“ O my son Absalom— my son, my son Absalom— if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!”

And King David longed to go to Absalom. For he had been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead.
