But Solomon did not make slaves of the Israelites for his work; they were his fighting men, commanders of his captains, and commanders of his chariots and charioteers.

But Solomon didn’t force the Israelites to work as his slaves. Instead, some were his fighting men. Others were commanders of his captains, chariots and chariot drivers.

But of the people of Israel Solomon made no slaves for his work; they were soldiers, and his officers, the commanders of his chariots, and his horsemen.

But Solomon did not conscript any of the Israelites for his labor force. Instead, he assigned them to serve as fighting men, officers in his army, commanders of his chariots, and charioteers.

「你的弟兄在你那裏若漸漸貧窮，將自己賣給你，你不可叫他像奴僕服事你。他在你那裏要像雇工和寄居的，服事你直到禧年。他和他兒女要離開你，一同出去，歸回自己的家，回到他祖宗的地業去。因為他們是我的僕人，是我從埃及地領出來的。他們不可被賣為奴僕。不可苛刻管轄他，只要敬畏你的神。至於你所要的奴僕和使女，可以來自你們四圍的列國，你們可以從他們中買奴僕和使女。那些寄居在你們中間的外人和他們的家屬，就是在你們地上所生的，你們可以從其中買人；他們要作你們的產業。你們可以把他們遺留給你們後代的子孫，作為永遠繼承的產業；你們可以使他們作奴僕。至於你們的弟兄以色列人，你們彼此不可苛刻管轄。

但另一婦人就是在上的耶路撒冷，是自由的，她是我們的母親。

他說：「管轄你們的王必用這樣的方式：他必派你們的兒子為他駕車，趕馬，在他的戰車前奔跑。他要為自己立千夫長、五十夫長；耕種他的田地，收割他的莊稼；打造他的兵器和車上的器械。
