羅波安王自強，在耶路撒冷作王。他登基的時候年四十一歲，在耶路撒冷，就是耶和華從以色列眾支派中所選擇立他名的城，作王十七年。羅波安的母親名叫拿瑪，是亞捫人。

然而，耶和華－以色列的神在我父的全家揀選我作以色列的王，直到永遠。因他揀選猶大為首領；在猶大支派中揀選我父家，在我父的眾子裏喜悅我，立我作以色列眾人的王。

卻揀選猶大支派－他所喜愛的錫安山；蓋造他的聖所，好像高峯，又像他建立永存之地；又揀選他的僕人大衛，從羊圈中將他召來，

耶和華本為大！在我們神的城中，在他的聖山上，該受大讚美。

耶和華對撒母耳說：「我既厭棄掃羅作以色列的王，你為他悲傷要到幾時呢？你將膏油盛滿了角，我差遣你往伯利恆人耶西那裏去；因為我在他眾子之內，預定一個作王的。」

因為耶和華揀選了錫安，願意當作自己的居所，

可怎樣回答外邦的使者呢？必說：耶和華建立了錫安；他百姓中的困苦人必投奔在其中。

當時，你在異象中曉諭你的聖民，說：我已把救助之力加在那有能者的身上；我高舉那從民中所揀選的。我尋得我的僕人大衛，用我的聖膏膏他。
