羅波安王在耶路撒冷鞏固了自己的勢力，繼續做王。他四十一歲登基，在耶路撒冷執政十七年。耶和華從以色列眾支派中選擇耶路撒冷作為立祂名的城。羅波安的母親叫拿瑪，是亞捫人。

以色列的上帝耶和華從我父親家中揀選我做以色列的王，直到永遠。因為祂揀選了猶大支派做首領；在猶大支派中，祂揀選了我父親家；在我父親的眾子中，祂喜悅我，立我做以色列的王。

祂揀選了猶大支派，祂所喜愛的錫安山。祂為自己建造高聳的聖所，使它像大地一樣長存。祂揀選了祂的僕人大衛，把他從羊圈中召來，

耶和華何等偉大！我們的上帝在祂的城中，在祂的聖山上當大受頌讚。

耶和華對撒母耳說：「我已經拒絕讓掃羅做以色列王了，你還要為他哀傷多久呢？把你的角盛滿膏油，我要差遣你到伯利恆的耶西那裡，我已選了他的一個兒子做王。」

因為耶和華已經揀選了錫安，願意將錫安作為祂的居所。

該怎樣回覆外國的使者呢？要告訴他們：「耶和華建立了錫安，祂困苦的子民必得到保護。」

你曾在異象中對你忠心的子民說：「我已把力量賜給一位勇士，已擢升我在民中揀選的人。我找到了我的僕人大衛，用我的聖油膏立他。
