All the Levites who were musicians, including Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and relatives, wore linen. They played cymbals and stringed instruments as they stood east of the altar. They were accompanied by 120 priests who blew trumpets.

4,000 are to be gatekeepers; and 4,000 are to praise the LORD with the instruments I supplied for worship.”

King Hezekiah stationed the Levites in the LORD’s temple with cymbals and stringed instruments, just as David, Gad the king’s prophet, and Nathan the prophet had ordered.( The LORD had actually given these orders through his prophets.)

These are the ones who served along with their sons: From the Kohathites: Heman the musician, son of Joel, son of Samuel,

Praise him with the blast of the horn! Praise him with the lyre and the harp!Praise him with the tambourine and with dancing! Praise him with stringed instruments and the flute!Praise him with loud cymbals! Praise him with clanging cymbals!

Serving beside him was his fellow Levite Asaph, son of Berechiah, son of Shimea,

Singers walk in front; musicians follow playing their stringed instruments, in the midst of young women playing tambourines.

So Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and instructed them,“ Pick up the ark of the covenant, and seven priests must carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark of the LORD.”And he told the army,“ Move ahead and march around the city, with armed troops going ahead of the ark of the LORD.”When Joshua gave the army its orders, the seven priests carrying the seven rams’ horns before the LORD moved ahead and blew the horns as the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed behind.Armed troops marched ahead of the priests blowing the horns, while the rear guard followed along behind the ark blowing rams’ horns.Now Joshua had instructed the army,“ Do not give a battle cry or raise your voices; say nothing until the day I tell you,‘ Give the battle cry.’ Then give the battle cry!”So Joshua made sure they marched the ark of the LORD around the city one time. Then they went back to the camp and spent the night there.Bright and early the next morning Joshua had the priests pick up the ark of the LORD.The seven priests carrying the seven rams’ horns before the ark of the LORD marched along blowing their horns. Armed troops marched ahead of them, while the rear guard followed along behind the ark of the LORD blowing rams’ horns.They marched around the city one time on the second day, then returned to the camp. They did this six days in all.On the seventh day they were up at the crack of dawn and marched around the city as before– only this time they marched around it seven times.The seventh time around, the priests blew the rams’ horns and Joshua told the army,“ Give the battle cry, for the LORD is handing the city over to you!The city and all that is in it must be set apart for the LORD, except for Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house, because she hid the spies we sent.But be careful when you are setting apart the riches for the LORD. If you take any of it, you will make the Israelite camp subject to annihilation and cause a disaster.All the silver and gold, as well as bronze and iron items, belong to the LORD. They must go into the LORD’s treasury.”The rams’ horns sounded and when the army heard the signal, they gave a loud battle cry. The wall collapsed and the warriors charged straight ahead into the city and captured it.

Joining them were Heman, Jeduthun, and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the LORD.( For his loyal love endures!)Heman and Jeduthun were in charge of the music, including the trumpets, cymbals, and the other musical instruments used in praising God. The sons of Jeduthun guarded the entrance.

David was wrapped in a linen robe, as were all the Levites carrying the ark, the musicians, and Kenaniah the supervisor of transport and the musicians; David also wore a linen ephod.

and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, dressed in clean bright linen, wearing wide golden belts around their chests.

David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint some of their relatives as musicians; they were to play various instruments, including stringed instruments and cymbals, and to sing loudly and joyfully.So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; one of his relatives, Asaph son of Berechiah; one of the descendants of Merari, Ethan son of Kushaiah;along with some of their relatives who were second in rank, including Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the gatekeepers.The musicians Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals;Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play the harps according to the alamoth style;Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to play the lyres according to the sheminith style, as led by the director;Kenaniah, the leader of the Levites, was in charge of transport, for he was well-informed on this matter;

For God alone I patiently wait; he is the one who delivers me.

David and the army officers selected some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to prophesy as they played stringed instruments and cymbals. The following men were assigned this responsibility:From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. The sons of Asaph were supervised by Asaph, who prophesied under the king’s supervision.From the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah– six in all, under supervision of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied as he played a harp, giving thanks and praise to the LORD.From the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.All these were the sons of Heman, the king’s prophet. God had promised him these sons in order to make him prestigious. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.All of these were under the supervision of their fathers; they were musicians in the LORD’s temple, playing cymbals and stringed instruments as they served in God’s temple. Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the supervision of the king.They and their relatives, all of them skilled and trained to make music to the LORD, numbered two hundred eighty-eight.

The LORD spoke to Moses:“ Make two trumpets of silver; you are to make them from a single hammered piece. You will use them for assembling the community and for directing the traveling of the camps.When they blow them both, all the community must come to you to the entrance of the tent of meeting.“ But if they blow with one trumpet, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, must come to you.When you blow an alarm, then the camps that are located on the east side must begin to travel.

When the builders established the LORD’s temple, the priests, ceremonially attired and with their clarions, and the Levites( the sons of Asaph) with their cymbals, stood to praise the LORD according to the instructions left by King David of Israel.With antiphonal response they sang, praising and glorifying the LORD:“ For he is good; his loyal love toward Israel is forever.” All the people gave a loud shout as they praised the LORD when the temple of the LORD was established.

They also stood in a designated place every morning and offered thanks and praise to the LORD. They also did this in the evening

to the accompaniment of a ten-stringed instrument and a lyre, to the accompaniment of the meditative tone of the harp.

El, God, the LORD speaks, and summons the earth to come from the east and west.

Let them praise his name with dancing! Let them sing praises to him to the accompaniment of the tambourine and harp!

She was permitted to be dressed in bright, clean, fine linen”( for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints).

The priests stood in their assigned spots, along with the Levites who had the musical instruments used for praising the LORD.( These were the ones King David made for giving thanks to the LORD and which were used by David when he offered praise, saying,“ Certainly his loyal love endures.”) Opposite the Levites, the priests were blowing the trumpets, while all Israel stood there.

while David and all Israel were energetically celebrating before God, singing and playing various stringed instruments, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets.

He appointed some of the Levites to serve before the ark of the LORD, to offer prayers, songs of thanks, and hymns to the LORD God of Israel.Asaph was the leader and Zechariah second in command, followed by Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel. They were to play stringed instruments; Asaph was to sound the cymbals;and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel were to blow trumpets regularly before the ark of God’s covenant.

O LORD God who delivers me! By day I cry out and at night I pray before you.
