“用不義的手段建造自己房屋、用不公正的方法建築自己樓房的，有禍了！他使自己的同胞白白作工，不把工資付給他們。他說：‘我要為自己建造宏偉的房屋、寬敞的樓房。’他又為房屋裝設寬闊的窗戶，用香柏木作鑲板，並且漆上紅色。難道你是用香柏木爭勝來表明王的身分嗎？你父親不是也吃也喝，也施行公正和公義嗎？那時他得享福樂。他為困苦和貧窮人伸冤，那時他得享福樂。這不是認識我的真義嗎？”這是耶和華的宣告。“但你的眼你的心甚麼都不顧，只顧你的不義之財，只知流無辜人的血，施行欺壓和迫害的事。”因此，論到猶大王約西亞的兒子約雅敬，耶和華這樣說：“人必不為他哀傷，說：‘哀哉，我哥哥！’‘哀哉，我姊姊！’人必不為他哀傷，說：‘哀哉，主上！’‘哀哉，尊榮的王！’他像驢子一樣被埋葬，被拖走，拋在耶路撒冷城門外。”

王燒了那載有巴錄從耶利米口中錄下的話的書卷以後，耶和華的話又臨到耶利米，說：“你再取一書卷來，把猶大王約雅敬燒掉的前一書卷裡原來的一切話，都寫在書卷上面。論到猶大王約雅敬你要說：‘耶和華這樣說：你燒了那書卷，說：你為甚麼在上面寫著說：巴比倫王一定來，毀滅這地，使地上的人畜都滅絕呢？因此，耶和華論到猶大王約雅敬這樣說：他的後代必沒有人坐在大衛的王位上；他的屍體必拋棄在外，日間受炎熱，夜間受寒霜。我必懲罰他和他的後裔，以及他臣僕的罪孽；我必使我對他們預告過的一切災禍，臨到他們和耶路撒冷的居民，以及猶大人的身上；他們卻不聽從。’”於是耶利米取了另一卷書卷，交給尼利亞的兒子文士巴錄；巴錄就從耶利米的口中，把猶大王約雅敬在火中燒掉的那書上的一切話，都寫在書卷上，還加上很多類似的話。

在猶大王約西亞的兒子約雅敬作王的日子，耶和華有話臨到耶利米，說：

約雅敬王和他所有的勇士，以及猶大的眾領袖聽見了烏利亞的話，王就想要殺他。烏利亞聽見了，就懼怕，就逃往埃及去。約雅敬王打發人到埃及去，就是派亞革波的兒子以利拿單和一些人同到埃及去。他們就把烏利亞從埃及帶出來，送到約雅敬王那裡。王用刀殺死他，把他的屍體拋在平民的墳地裡。
