『將來他登了國位，就要從祭司利未人面前的原本、為自己用一卷錄寫這律法的抄本。那書要時常在他身邊，儘他一生的日子他總要誦讀，好學習敬畏他的上帝，謹守這律法書上的一切話，也守這些律例去遵行；免得他心高氣傲、藐視他的族弟兄，也免得他離了這誡命、而偏左偏右；好使他和他子孫在以色列中治國延年益壽。

『看吧，日子必到，永恆主發神諭說，我必跟以色列家和猶大家立個新的約，不像我拉着他們祖宗的手、領他們出埃及地的日子、跟他們立的約那樣：我雖做他們的夫君，他們卻違犯了我的約：永恆主發神諭說。

他們入了約，要全心全意尋求永恆主他們列祖的上帝；凡不尋求永恆主以色列之上帝的、無論大小男女、都必被處死。

又將約書念給人民聽；眾民說：『凡永恆主所說的、我們都要遵行。』

希勒家應時對祕書沙番說：『我在永恆主殿裏發現了律法書』；希勒家就將書遞給沙番。

那時眾民如同一人聚集在水門前的廣場上，請經學士以斯拉將摩西的律法書帶來：那律法是永恆主吩咐以色列人遵守的。七月一日、祭司以斯拉將律法書帶到一切聽了能明白的男女大眾面前。他在水門前的廣場前面、從天亮到中午、在男女和能明白的人面前一直誦讀；眾民都側耳傾聽這律法書。經學士以斯拉站在為這事特製的木臺上；在他身旁有瑪他提雅、示瑪、亞奈雅、烏利亞、希勒家，和瑪西雅、站在他右邊；有毘大雅、米沙利、瑪基雅、哈順、哈拔大拿、撒迦利亞、和米書蘭、站在他左邊。經學士以斯拉在高過眾民以上的地方、當着眾民眼前把書卷展開；他一展開了，眾民就都站起來。

他作王第三年就差遣大臣、有才德的人：俄巴底、撒迦利雅、拿坦業、米該亞、在猶大各城去教訓人。同他們去的有利未人示瑪雅、尼探雅、西巴第雅、亞撒黑、示米拉末、約拿單、亞多尼雅、多比雅、駝巴多尼雅這些利未人；又有祭司以利沙瑪、約蘭、和他們一同去。他們在猶大教訓人，也隨身帶着永恆主的律法書：他們環遊到猶大各城，在民間教訓人。

再者，傳道人除了做智慧師之外，他還繼續將知識教訓一切人；他又衡量，又考查，又編撰許多箴言。傳道人專心尋求要得可喜悅的話，便將真實之話正確確地寫出來。

大小人等都在那裏；奴僕全脫離主人而自由。

那時所羅門說：『永恆主曾經說過他要居於暗霧之中。那麼我就為他建造了巍峨之殿，一個定所、讓他永遠居住。』於是王轉臉四顧，給以色列全體大眾祝福，以色列全體大眾都站着。所羅門說：『永恆主以色列之上帝是當受祝頌的，因為他對我父親大衛親口說過，也親手作成，說：「自從我領我人民出埃及地的日子以來、我都未曾從以色列眾族派中選擇一座城來建殿，讓我的名長在那裏；我也未曾揀選一個人作人君來管理我人民以色列；我只選擇了耶路撒冷，讓我的名長在那裏；又揀選了大衛來管理我人民以色列。」我父親大衛心裏原有意思要為永恆主以色列之上帝的名建殿。永恆主卻對我父親大衛說：「你心裏有意思要為我的名建殿，你心裏這意思固然好；但不是你可以建殿的，乃是你兒子、從你自己腰腎中生出的、他才可以為我的名建殿。」現在永恆主已經實行了他所說過的話；我已經起來接替了我父親大衛、坐以色列的王位，照永恆主所說過的，我已經為了永恆主以色列之上帝的名建了殿了。我也將約櫃立在殿中；在櫃中並且有永恆主的約、他同以色列人所立的。』

祕書沙番又告訴王說：『祭司希勒家還遞給我一卷書呢。』沙番就在王面前將內容唸出來。王聽見《律法書》上的話，便撕裂衣服。

審判的時候、不可看人的外貌；聽訟無論是聽卑小的，還是聽尊大的、都要一樣；不可怕人的情面，因為審判是屬於上帝的；你們認為難辦的案件、可以呈到我這裏來，我就判斷。」

王吩咐眾民說：『你們要照這《約書》上所寫的向永恆主你們的上帝守逾越節。

先是亞蘭王吩咐他的戰車長說：『無論小將大將、你們都不要跟他交戰，只要跟以色列王交戰。』

永恆主這麼說：看吧，我必按照在猶大王面前所唸那卷書上所記的一切咒詛降災禍於這地和這地的居民。
