他又把自己所造的亚舍拉雕像立在殿内，耶和华曾对大卫和他儿子所罗门说：“我在以色列众支派中所选择的耶路撒冷和这殿，必立我的名，直到永远。只要以色列人谨守遵行我一切所吩咐的和我仆人摩西所吩咐的一切律法，我就不再使他们的脚挪移，离开我所赐给他们列祖之地。”

他把亚舍拉从耶和华殿里搬到耶路撒冷外的汲沦溪，在汲沦溪边焚烧，打碎成灰，把灰撒在平民的坟上。

他除掉外邦人的神像与耶和华殿中的偶像，又将他在耶和华殿的山上和耶路撒冷所筑的各坛都拆毁，抛在城外。

却拣选犹大支派，拣选他所喜爱的锡安山；

只是我不撕裂全国，却要因我仆人大卫和我所选择的耶路撒冷，保留一个支派给你的儿子。”

他们若在掳他们的仇敌之地尽心尽性归向你，又向自己的地，就是你赐给他们列祖的地和你所选择的城，以及我为你名所建造的这殿祷告，
