當一切都辦妥後，所有在場的以色列人就前往猶大各城邑，打碎神柱，砍倒亞舍拉神像，又拆毀猶大、便雅憫、以法蓮、瑪拿西境內所有的邱壇和祭壇，然後各自返回自己的城邑和家園。

他們除去耶路撒冷的祭壇和所有香壇，把它們丟進汲淪溪。

智慧勝過兵器，但一個罪人卻能破壞許多善事。

他拆除邱壇，砸碎神柱，砍倒亞舍拉神像，打碎摩西造的銅蛇，因為當時以色列人仍向銅蛇燒香，稱之為尼忽士旦。

我必剷除那些在屋頂祭拜天上萬象的人，剷除敬拜我、憑我起誓又憑米勒公起誓的人，

耶路撒冷的房屋和猶大君王的宮殿將被玷污，像陀斐特一樣，因為他們在房頂向天上的萬象燒香，向別的神明奠酒。』」

從前，猶大各王任命祭司在猶大各城和耶路撒冷周圍的邱壇燒香。現在，約西亞除掉那些祭司，又除掉向巴力、日、月、星辰及天上萬象燒香的祭司。他將亞舍拉神像從耶和華的殿裡搬到耶路撒冷城外汲淪溪旁燒掉，磨成灰撒在平民的墳墓上。

當你們舉目觀看你們的上帝耶和華賜給天下萬民的日、月、星辰等天上萬象時，不要受誘惑去跪拜、供奉它們。

以色列人做耶和華視為惡的事，祭拜巴力。他們背棄了領他們祖先離開埃及的上帝耶和華，追隨、祭拜鄰邦的各種神明，因而惹耶和華發怒。他們背棄耶和華，去祭拜巴力和亞斯她錄。

這希西迦不是曾經廢掉耶和華的邱壇和祭壇，吩咐猶大人和耶路撒冷人只在一個祭壇前敬拜，在祭壇上燒香嗎？

他們在各高崗上、樹蔭下為自己建造邱壇，豎立神柱和亞舍拉神像，

他們的兒女沒有忘記綠樹下、高崗上、

拋散在他們昔日戀慕、供奉、追隨、求問、祭拜的日月星辰之下，無人收殮和埋葬，他們好像地上的糞便。

因此，上帝轉臉不顧他們，任由他們祭拜日月星辰，正如先知書的記載，『以色列家啊，在曠野的四十年間，你們向我獻過祭物和供品嗎？

他重建他父親希西迦拆毀的邱壇，效法以色列王亞哈為巴力築造祭壇，製造亞舍拉神像，並且祭拜和供奉天上的萬象。

誰知道那人是智者還是愚人呢？然而，他卻要接管我在日光之下用智慧辛勤經營的產業。這也是虛空。

他從耶和華的殿門口除掉猶大各王獻給太陽神的馬匹，這些馬匹在太監拿單·米勒房子旁邊的院子裡。他燒掉了那些獻給太陽神的戰車。

反而步以色列諸王的後塵，又鑄造巴力神像。他不但在欣嫩子谷燒香，還效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的外族人的可憎行徑，焚燒自己的兒子作祭物。他還在邱壇、山岡和綠樹下獻祭燒香。
