These were the leaders of the tribes of Israel.David did not count those below twenty years of age, for the Lord had promised to make Israel as many as the stars of heaven.Joab the son of Zeruiah began to count, but did not finish. Over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.All these were stewards of King David’s property.Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counselor, being a man of understanding and a scribe. He and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni attended the king’s sons.Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king’s army.

And all the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the Lord had commanded Israel.So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, both men and women and all who could understand what they heard, on the first day of the seventh month.And he read from it facing the square before the Water Gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women and those who could understand. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law.
