Hezekiah assigned the priests and Levites to divisions— each of them according to their duties as priests or Levites— to offer burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, to minister, to give thanks and to sing praises at the gates of the Lord’s dwelling.

Hezekiah put the priests and Levites in groups based on their duties. The priests sacrificed burnt offerings and friendship offerings. The Levites served the Lord by giving thanks and singing praises at the gates of his house.

Behold, bless ye the LORD, all[ ye] servants of the LORD, which by night stand in the house of the LORD.Lift up your hands[ in] the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.The LORD that made heaven and earth bless thee out of Zion.Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise[ him], O ye servants of the LORD.Ye that stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God,Praise the LORD; for the LORD[ is] good: sing praises unto his name; for[ it is] pleasant.

And he appointed, according to the order of David his father, the courses of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their charges, to praise and minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required: the porters also by their courses at every gate: for so had David the man of God commanded.

To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and[ to do] according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel;And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were expressed by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy[ endureth] for ever;

Because their office[ was] to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;Both for the shewbread, and for the fine flour for meat offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for[ that which is baked in] the pan, and for that which is fried, and for all manner of measure and size;And to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise at even;And to offer all burnt sacrifices unto the LORD in the sabbaths, in the new moons, and on the set feasts, by number, according to the order commanded unto them, continually before the LORD:

And the priests killed them, and they made reconciliation with their blood upon the altar, to make an atonement for all Israel: for the king commanded[ that] the burnt offering and the sin offering[ should be made] for all Israel.And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet: for[ so was] the commandment of the LORD by his prophets.And the Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.

And he appointed[ certain] of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy[ place]:( for all the priests[ that were] present were sanctified,[ and] did not[ then] wait by course:

So when David was old and full of days, he made Solomon his son king over Israel.And he gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand.Of which, twenty and four thousand[ were] to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand[ were] officers and judges:Moreover four thousand[ were] porters; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made,[ said David], to praise[ therewith].And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi,[ namely], Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.Of the Gershonites[ were], Laadan, and Shimei.The sons of Laadan; the chief[ was] Jehiel, and Zetham, and Joel, three.The sons of Shimei; Shelomith, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These[ were] the chief of the fathers of Laadan.And the sons of Shimei[ were], Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four[ were] the sons of Shimei.And Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah had not many sons; therefore they were in one reckoning, according to[ their] father’s house.The sons of Kohath; Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.The sons of Amram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister unto him, and to bless in his name for ever.Now[ concerning] Moses the man of God, his sons were named of the tribe of Levi.The sons of Moses[ were], Gershom, and Eliezer.Of the sons of Gershom, Shebuel[ was] the chief.And the sons of Eliezer[ were], Rehabiah the chief. And Eliezer had none other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.Of the sons of Izhar; Shelomith the chief.Of the sons of Hebron; Jeriah the first, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.Of the sons of Uzziel; Michah the first, and Jesiah the second.The sons of Merari; Mahli, and Mushi. The sons of Mahli; Eleazar, and Kish.And Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters: and their brethren the sons of Kish took them.The sons of Mushi; Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.These[ were] the sons of Levi after the house of their fathers;[ even] the chief of the fathers, as they were counted by number of names by their polls, that did the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from the age of twenty years and upward.For David said, The LORD God of Israel hath given rest unto his people, that they may dwell in Jerusalem for ever:And also unto the Levites; they shall no[ more] carry the tabernacle, nor any vessels of it for the service thereof.

So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the LORD Asaph and his brethren, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required:

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife[ was] of the daughters of Aaron, and her name[ was] Elisabeth.

The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the voice of them that shall say, Praise the LORD of hosts: for the LORD[ is] good; for his mercy[ endureth] for ever:[ and] of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the LORD. For I will cause to return the captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the LORD.

And Mattaniah the son of Micha, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph,[ was] the principal to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

And they set the priests in their divisions, and the Levites in their courses, for the service of God, which[ is] at Jerusalem; as it is written in the book of Moses.
