Our parents were unfaithful; they did evil in the eyes of the Lord our God and forsook him. They turned their faces away from the Lord’s dwelling place and turned their backs on him.

你們認木頭為父，認石頭為母。你們不是面向我而是背對我，危難時卻向我求救。

但我們的祖先行事狂傲，頑固不化，不肯聽從你的誡命。

我們的祖先犯了罪，已經逝去，我們卻要承擔他們的罪責。

「你們和你們的祖先、君王、官長及其他所有百姓在猶大各城和耶路撒冷的街上燒香，耶和華豈不記得，豈能遺忘？

你這不是自食其果嗎？因為你的上帝耶和華一路引導你的時候，你卻背棄祂。

從我們的祖先開始到現在，我們罪惡深重。由於我們的罪惡，我們、我們的君王和祭司都落在外邦君王的手中，被他們殺害、俘虜、搶掠和羞辱，如同今天的光景。

但因為我們的祖先觸怒了天上的上帝，上帝把他們交在迦勒底人——巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒的手中，他摧毀了這殿，把他們擄到巴比倫。

主啊，你一向公義，求你不要向你的耶路撒冷城——你的聖山發烈怒。由於我們的罪惡和我們祖先的過犯，耶路撒冷和你的子民成了四圍鄰人嘲諷的對象。

竟去祭拜打敗他的大馬士革人的神明，說：「既然亞蘭王的神明幫助了亞蘭人，我要向這些神明獻祭，以便它們幫助我。」但那些神明導致了他和全體以色列人的滅亡。亞哈斯將耶和華上帝殿裡的器皿收集起來打碎，封鎖殿門，並在耶路撒冷的每個角落為自己設立祭壇。他還在猶大各城建立邱壇，向其他神明燒香，惹他祖先的上帝耶和華發怒。

反而步以色列諸王的後塵，又鑄造巴力神像。他不但在欣嫩子谷燒香，還效法耶和華在以色列人面前趕走的外族人的可憎行徑，焚燒自己的兒子作祭物。他還在邱壇、山岡和綠樹下獻祭燒香。

因為我的子民犯了兩項罪，他們離棄了我這活水源泉，為自己挖了不能蓄水的破池子。

耶和華啊，你是我的力量，是我的堡壘，是我患難時的避難所。萬國都要從地極來朝見你，說：「我們祖先所拜的神像虛假無用，一無是處。

「你們去為我、為以色列和猶大的餘民求問耶和華有關這書卷上的話。耶和華的烈怒已經臨到我們身上，因為我們的祖先沒有遵守耶和華的話，沒有遵行這書卷上的話。」

「愛父母過於愛我的人不配作我的門徒；愛兒女過於愛我的人不配作我的門徒；

『如果我們活在我們祖先的時代，絕不會和他們一起去殺害先知。』這樣，你們自己證明自己是殺害先知之人的後代。去填滿你們祖先的罪惡吧！

「因此，我們的上帝啊，你是偉大、全能、可畏、守約、施慈愛的上帝，求你不要輕看我們的王、首領、祭司、先知、祖先和你的子民從亞述諸王時代直到今天所受的苦難。
