Then they will know my vengeance,” says the Lord Yahweh.“‘ The Lord Yahweh says:“ Because the Philistines have taken revenge, and have taken vengeance with contempt of soul to destroy with perpetual hostility;”therefore the Lord Yahweh says,“ Behold, I will stretch out my hand on the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites, and destroy the remnant of the sea coast.I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am Yahweh, when I lay my vengeance on them.”’”

Don’t deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress.For the day of Yahweh is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.

Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the children of Israel served Cushan Rishathaim eight years.

He said to him,“ Yahweh says,‘ Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life will take the place of his life, and your people take the place of his people.’”

Then Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah, and said to him,“ What did these men say? From where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said,“ They have come from a far country, even from Babylon.”He said,“ What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered,“ They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.”

They said,“ Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

Therefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. They struck him, and carried away from him a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter.

The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him,“ Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.”

“ Son of man, because Tyre has said against Jerusalem,‘ Aha! She is broken! She who was the gateway of the peoples has been returned to me. I will be replenished, now that she is laid waste;’therefore the Lord Yahweh says,‘ Behold, I am against you, Tyre, and will cause many nations to come up against you, as the sea causes its waves to come up.

Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation!I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me I will give him a command to take the plunder and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.However he doesn’t mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations.

For they persecute him whom you have wounded. They tell of the sorrow of those whom you have hurt.

I didn’t sit in the assembly of those who make merry and rejoice. I sat alone because of your hand, for you have filled me with indignation.Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuses to be healed? Will you indeed be to me as a deceitful brook, like waters that fail?

Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat,“ Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate Yahweh? Because of this, wrath is on you from before Yahweh.

Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet, who said to him,“ Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”As he talked with him, the king said to him,“ Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said,“ I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.”

Yahweh said,“ What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.

Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said,“ Yahweh says,‘ Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.’”
