他日亞捫族與以色列族戰。基列長老往奪地、招耶弗大、曰、汝來為我軍長、以攻亞捫族。耶弗大曰、汝非憾我、逐我於父家乎。今遭患難、乃相就耶。基列長老曰、我今就爾、請爾偕行、以攻亞捫族、而為基列人長。耶弗大曰、如爾導我旋歸、使攻亞捫族、而耶和華以之付於我手、則爾其以為我長乎。曰、爾我間耶和華為證、我從爾言。耶弗大與基列長老偕行、述此言於米斯巴、耶和華前、民遂立之為軍長。耶弗大遣使者至亞捫族、告其王曰、我與爾何與、爾至斯土、攻我曷故。亞捫族之王告其使者曰、以色列族出埃及時、奪我土地、自亞嫩至雅泊、及約但、今以斯土反我、則兵可罷。耶弗大復遣厥使、告亞捫族之王曰、耶弗大云摩押與亞捫族之地、以色列族未嘗奪之。初以色列族出埃及、經紅海、過曠野、至迦鐵、遣使告以東王曰、盍容我過爾境。以東王不允、復遣使至摩押王、告以是言、亦不允、故以色列族居於迦鐵。遂巡曠野、環以東摩押境、至摩押東隅、建營於亞嫩外、不入其國、蓋摩押以亞嫩為界。以色列族遣使告都希實本之亞摩哩王西宏、曰、盍容我過爾境、以歸我土。西宏不許、乃集眾民、建營雅哈斯、與以色列族戰。以色列族之上帝耶和華、以西宏及其人民付於以色列族手、使之攻擊、據有其地。得亞摩哩境、自亞嫩至雅泊、自曠野至約但。是則使民得亞摩哩人之地者、乃以色列族之上帝耶和華也、爾豈能得斯土乎。爾之上帝基抹錫爾之地、爾可得之、我之上帝耶和華錫我之地、我亦得之、昔摩押王西撥子巴勒、未嘗攻以色列族、與之戰鬥、爾豈愈於彼乎。以色列族嘗居希實本與其鄉里、亞囉耳與其鄉里、沿亞嫩諸邑、歷三百年、當此之時、爾何不拯其邑乎。乃我未嘗獲罪於爾、爾反攻我、殊悖於理。夫鞫人之是非者耶和華也、今在以色列族亞捫族間、願彼折中之。亞捫族王不聽使者所言。於是耶和華之神感耶弗大、使巡基列馬拿西二地、又巡基列之米斯巴、自此而往至亞捫族。耶弗大許願於耶和華前曰、如誠以亞捫一族付於我手、則當我凱旋之時、凡出我門以迓者、我必以彼燔而獻於耶和華。遂抵亞捫族攻之、耶和華付於其手。自亞囉耳至米匿、及葡萄平原、共擊二十邑、大戮其眾、於是亞捫族咸服、

嗣後亞捫族之王薨、子哈嫩繼位。大闢曰、昔拿轄善待我、我必善待其子。乃遣臣僕、至哈嫩所、唁其喪父。大闢臣僕詣亞捫族之地。亞捫族諸伯、告其主哈嫩曰、爾謂大闢唁爾父喪、其意豈在尊崇乎、蓋遣其臣僕。欲詳察我邑、而使我敗亡耳。於是哈嫩執大闢臣僕薙其鬚之半、中斷其衣、露其下體、然後縱之使去。使者深以為恥、或以告大闢王、乃遣人諭之曰、且居耶利哥、俟鬚長而後旋歸。亞捫族知大闢憾己、如惡惡臭、遣人至伯哩合、及鎖巴、借亞蘭人步卒二萬、至馬迦王、借兵一千、又至奪地、借兵一萬二千。大闢聞之、則遣約押、率英武之士。亞捫族出、陳列行伍、在邑門前。鎖巴哩合之亞蘭人、及奪地人、與馬迦僕從、別列其陳、在曠野之所。約押見敵、前後列陳以攻、則簡以色列精銳之卒、陳列行伍、攻擊亞蘭人、以餘軍付於弟亞庇篩、使陳列行伍、攻亞捫族、曰、如亞蘭人強於我、爾必助我、如亞捫族強於爾、我必助爾。宜強乃志、為我民及為我上帝之眾邑戰、願耶和華任意以行。約押率軍前往、攻亞蘭人、使其敗北。亞捫族見亞蘭人潰而奔、則亦遁逃、避亞庇篩、入於邑中。約押不攻亞捫族、而歸耶路撒冷。

耶和華以亞捫之事告眾、曰、以色列族豈無嗣子、崇事密君者、奚可強據伽得之地、而處其邑、故耶和華曰、時日將至、我必使戰鬥之聲、聞於亞捫族之喇巴邑、城垣變為瓦礫、居民盡遭焚燬、以色列族、昔為敵所虜、後轉虜其敵。埃邑傾圮、希實本人號呼、喇巴眾女、俱衣衰絰、躑躅於藩籬間、不勝哭泣、蓋密君見攘、其祭司牧伯俱為俘囚。違逆之女、居於膏腴之谷、詡詡然以為已得貨財、無人犯我四境、然爾不可矜誇。萬有之主耶和華曰、我自四周、使爾駭懼、驅逐爾曹、爾眾流亡、無人撫集。耶和華又曰、厥後我將返亞捫人之俘囚。

嗣後摩押人、亞捫人、糾合他族、攻約沙法。
