Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the Lord delivered into their hands a much larger army. Because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, judgment was executed on Joash.

The army of Aram had come with only a few men. But the Lord allowed them to win the battle over a much larger army. Judah had deserted the Lord, the God of their people. That’s why the Lord punished Joash.

Though the army of the Syrians had come with few men, the Lord delivered into their hand a very great army, because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash.

『永恆主必使你在仇敵面前被擊敗；你從一條路出去攻打他們，必由七條路、從他們面前逃跑；你竟要成為地上萬國所引為令人不寒而慄的例子。

一人叱喝，千人就發顫，五人叱喝，你們就逃跑，以致你們剩下的就像山頂上的旗杆，岡陵上的旌旗。

耶戶討伐亞哈家的罪時候，遇見了猶大的首領們和亞哈謝的族弟兄們的兒子、那些伺候亞哈謝的，耶戶就把他們都殺了。

我要使刀劍擊殺你們，對你們施行背約的報罰。你們聚集在你們的城內，我要打發瘟疫在你們中間，要將你們交在仇敵手中。

沒有人追趕、他們也彼此相撞而跌倒，像在刀劍之前；在仇敵面前、你們也站立不住。

你們五個人就可以追趕一百人，你們一百人就可以追趕一萬人；你們的仇敵必在你們面前倒斃於刀劍之下。

就使你們擊敗了那攻擊你們的迦勒底人全軍，其中只剩下一些被刺重傷的人，他們也會各從自己的帳棚裏起來，放火焚燒這城的。」』

那時上帝的靈覆被在祭司耶何耶大的兒子撒迦利亞身上，撒迦利亞就站在比人民高的地方，對他們說：『上帝這麼說：「你們為甚麼越犯了永恆主的誡命，以致不能順利呢？因為你們離棄了永恆主，永恆主也離棄你們。」』

若不是他們的磐石把他們交付出來，若不是永恆主把他們送交給我們，我們一人怎能追趕他們千人呢？我們兩個人怎能使他們萬人逃跑呢？

有禍呀，亞述，我怒氣的棍子！他是我忿怒之杖、在我手中。我打發他來攻擊不拜上帝之國，吩咐他來擊打我所惱怒的人民，來擄掠擄掠物，來掠劫掠劫物，使他們被踐踏、像街上的泥土一樣。

故此你必在饑餓乾渴、赤身裸體、樣樣缺乏之中去服事永恆主所打發來攻擊你的仇敵；他必用鐵軛加在你脖子上，直到將你消滅。

古實人路比人不是有很大軍隊麼？他們所有的戰車駿馬不是極多麼？只因你依靠着永恆主，永恆主便將他們交在你手裏。永恆主的眼目在全地上看來看去；凡以純全之心向他的人、他就顯大權能去幫助他。在這一點上你幹了糊塗事了！從今以後、你總有戰事了。』

他們從遠地而來，從天儘邊來到，就是永恆主跟他義怒的軍器、要毁滅這全轄地。

永恆主啊，你不是從亙古就有麼？我的上帝、我的聖者啊，你是不死的。永恆主啊，你派定他們以施判罰，磐石啊，你設立他們以行譴責。

現在你看，他們怎樣報復了我們：要來趕逐我們離開你的基業、就是你使我們取得的地。我們的上帝啊，你不懲罰他們麼？我們實在沒有力量對抗這來攻打我們的、這許多蜂擁軍兵；我們也不知道該怎樣行；我們的眼單單望着你。』
