Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the Lord delivered into their hands a much larger army. Because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, judgment was executed on Joash.

The army of Aram had come with only a few men. But the Lord allowed them to win the battle over a much larger army. Judah had deserted the Lord, the God of their people. That’s why the Lord punished Joash.

Though the army of the Syrians had come with few men, the Lord delivered into their hand a very great army, because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers. Thus they executed judgment on Joash.

主必使爾為敵所敗、爾由一途出以攻敵、必由七途逃於其前、必受天下萬國之凌辱、

一人叱喝、則千人逃、五人叱喝、則爾盡遁、致爾曹所遺者、僅如山巔之望杆、岡上之號旗、

其時耶戶伐亞哈家、遇猶大大夫與亞哈謝諸姪、服事亞哈謝者、遂殺之、

必降爾兵刃之災、討爾背約之罪、爾奔集於城中、必降瘟疫於爾間、付爾於敵手、

無人追襲時亦必逃遁、彼此衝突躓蹶、如有刃擊殺、爾不能立於敵前、

爾中五人逐敵一百、百人逐敵一萬、敵人必殞於刃在爾前、

攻爾之迦勒底人、假使爾擊其全軍、其中惟遺受傷之人、亦各於幕中起、以火焚燬斯邑、○

耶何耶大子撒迦利雅感天主之神、立於民前、告之曰、天主如是云、爾違主命何故、爾必不亨通、爾棄主、主亦棄爾、

非其天主鬻之、非耶和華付之、一人焉能驅千、二人焉能敗萬、

亞述人必受禍、我怒如梃、我忿猶杖、為其手所執、我遣之攻邪惡之國、命之罰我所怒之民、擄掠攘奪、蹂躪人民、若街衢之泥然、

故爾必饑渴、赤身裸體、匱乏一切、服事主所遣以攻爾之敵、彼必以鐵軛置於爾頸、將爾殲滅、

古實人、路比人、其軍非大乎、車騎非眾乎、爾恃主、主遂付之於爾手、主目遍鑒天下、凡誠心向主者、主力助之、爾於此事、所行愚昧、此後爾必有戰事、

主攜其怒具、來自遠方、來自天涯、以滅全地、

先知禱主曰、主我之天主、我之聖主、自亙古而有、必保全我、不致於死、必保全我不致於死原文作我儕必不致死耶和華歟、主為懲罰而設之、天主天主原文作磐歟、主為撲責而立之、耶和華歟主為懲罰而設之天主歟主為撲責而立之或作耶和華全能之主歟主立此迦勒底人欲藉以懲罰撲責世人

今彼來以惡報我儕、欲逐我於主所賜我為業之地、求我天主責之、此來攻我之群眾、我儕無力捍禦、我儕不知當何所為、我目惟盼望主、
