Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men, the Lord delivered into their hands a much larger army. Because Judah had forsaken the Lord, the God of their ancestors, judgment was executed on Joash.

The army of Aram had come with only a few men. But the Lord allowed them to win the battle over a much larger army. Judah had deserted the Lord, the God of their people. That’s why the Lord punished Joash.

「祂要使你們被敵人擊敗、潰不成軍、四散逃命，下場令天下萬國驚懼。

他們一人叱喝，必嚇得你們千人逃跑；他們五人叱喝，你們必全部逃跑，以致餘剩的人少得像山頂上的旗杆、高崗上的旗幟。」

耶戶討伐亞哈家的時候，遇見猶大眾首領和亞哈謝的眾侄兒，他們都是服侍亞哈謝的，耶戶就把他們全部殺掉。

因為你們毀約，我要用戰禍報應你們。你們躲進各城的時候，我要在你們中間降下瘟疫，使你們落在敵人手裡。

即使無人追趕，他們也將倉皇逃命，互相絆倒，如同躲避刀劍一樣。你們必無力抵擋敵人。

你們五人要追趕一百人，一百人要追趕一萬人，他們必死在你們刀下。

即使你們能打敗迦勒底全軍，他們營中受傷的殘兵也必起來燒毀這城。』」

上帝的靈感動了耶何耶大祭司的兒子撒迦利亞，他便站在高處對民眾說：「耶和華上帝這樣說，『你們為什麼違反耶和華的誡命，以致不得亨通呢？既然你們背棄我，我也必離棄你們。』」

若不是他們的磐石賣掉他們，若不是耶和華拋棄他們，一人怎能趕散他們千人？二人怎能擊潰他們萬人？

耶和華說：「亞述王有禍了！他是我的憤怒之棍，他手中拿著我發烈怒的杖。我要差遣他去攻打一個不虔敬的國家，一個惹我發怒的民族，去搶奪、擄掠他們的財物，像踐踏街上的泥土一樣踐踏他們。

你們必失去所有，饑餓乾渴、赤身裸體地侍奉耶和華派來攻擊你們的敵人。祂要把鐵軛加在你們的頸上，直到消滅你們。

古實人與路比人不是一支強大的軍隊嗎？他們的戰車騎兵不是極多嗎？然而，因為你倚靠耶和華，耶和華就把他們交在你手中。耶和華的眼目遍察天下，彰顯大能來扶助那些全心歸向祂的人。你做了愚蠢的事！從此以後，你必遭遇戰禍。」

他們從地極，從天邊而來。那是耶和華及傾倒祂烈怒的兵器，要來毀滅大地。

耶和華，我的上帝，我的聖者啊，你從亙古就存在，你永不消逝。耶和華啊，你派迦勒底人來審判；磐石啊，你立他們作施罰者。

但現在這些人要報復我們，把我們從你賜給我們作產業的地方趕走。我們的上帝啊，難道你不懲罰他們嗎？面對前來攻擊的大軍，我們無力抵擋，不知道該怎麼辦，我們只有仰望你。」
