昔以色列人出伊及時、遵主之命、不入亞捫摩押及西珥山之境、過而不滅其民、

“ But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them.

“ But here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir. You wouldn’t allow Israel to march in and attack their territory when the Israelites came from Egypt. So Israel turned away from them. They didn’t destroy them.

And now behold, the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came from the land of Egypt, and whom they avoided and did not destroy—

“ And now see what the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir are doing. You would not let our ancestors invade those nations when Israel left Egypt, so they went around them and did not destroy them.

Now here are the Ammonites, Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir. You did not let Israel invade them when Israel came out of the land of Egypt, but Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them.

Now behold, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You did not allow Israel to invade when they came out of the land of Egypt( for they turned aside from them and did not destroy them),

And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir— whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them—

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and destroyed them not;

Now here are the Ammonites, Moabites, and the inhabitants of Mount Seir. You did not let Israel invade them when Israel came out of the land of Egypt, but Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them.

Now the Ammonites, Moabites, and men from Mount Seir are coming! When Israel came from the land of Egypt, you did not allow them to invade these lands. They bypassed them and did not destroy them.

Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned away from them, and didn’t destroy them;

你告訴眾人，你們將經過西珥，那裡住著你們的親屬以掃的子孫。他們懼怕你們，所以要格外謹慎，不要惹他們，因為我已把西珥山賜給以掃作產業，他們的土地，我一寸也不會賜給你們。

到亞捫人之地後，不可騷擾他們，不可與他們爭戰，因為我不會把他們的土地賜給你們，我已把那裡賜給羅得的子孫作產業。』

耶和華對我說，『不可騷擾摩押人，不可與他們爭戰，因為我不會把他們的土地賜給你，我已把亞珥賜給羅得的子孫為業。』

求你容我們借道貴國。我們不會踏入田地和葡萄園，也不會喝井裡的水，只走大路，不會偏離，直到走出貴國。」以東王卻說：「你們不可從我這裡經過，否則我必兵戎相見。」以色列人說：「我們只走大路，倘若我們和牲畜喝了你的水，我們會付錢。我們別無他求，只求步行穿過貴國。」但以東王仍然不准，還率領大軍嚴陣以待。由於無法從以東穿過，以色列人只好繞道。

對他說：「以色列人並沒有佔據摩押和亞捫的土地。當年以色列人離開埃及，經曠野渡過紅海來到加低斯，然後派遣使者去見以東王，說，『求你讓我們經過你的領土。』以東王卻不答應。他們又派遣使者去見摩押王，摩押王也不答應。於是，以色列人就住在加低斯。後來，他們走過曠野，繞過以東和摩押，到了摩押的東邊，在摩押的邊界亞嫩河東岸紮營，並沒有進入摩押境內。

後來摩押人、亞捫人同一些米烏尼人一起來攻打約沙法。

他們開始唱歌讚美的時候，耶和華就派伏兵擊殺前來攻打猶大的亞捫人、摩押人和來自西珥山的人，打敗了他們。
