撒母耳对他们说：“如果你们全心归向耶和华，就要除掉你们那些外族的神明，包括亚斯她录神像，一心归向耶和华，单单事奉祂，祂必从非利士人手中救你们。”于是，他们除掉了巴力和亚斯她录神像，单单事奉耶和华。

亚伯拉罕在别示巴栽了一棵红柳，又在那里呼求耶和华——永恒上帝的名。

于是，从但到别示巴以及基列的全体以色列人万众一心，来到米斯巴，聚集在耶和华面前。

现在我决心要与以色列的上帝耶和华立约，好使祂的烈怒转离我们。我的孩子们啊，不要懈怠！因为耶和华拣选你们站在祂面前事奉祂，向祂烧香。”

约书亚对他们说：“如果你们人口众多，认为以法莲山区窄小，你们可以到比利洗人和利乏音人居住的地方开辟林区。”

他将以先知以利亚的心志和能力做主的先锋，使父亲的心转向儿女，使叛逆的人回转、顺从义人的智慧，为主预备合用的子民。”

那时候，以色列没有王。有一个利未人住在以法莲山区的偏远地带，他娶了犹大伯利恒的一个女子为妾。
