他甚至废了他祖母玛迦太后的位，因玛迦造了可憎的亚舍拉。亚撒砍下她的偶像，在汲沦溪边烧了，只是丘坛还没有废去。亚撒一生向耶和华存纯正的心。亚撒将他父亲所分别为圣与自己所分别为圣的金银和器皿都奉到耶和华的殿里。亚撒和以色列王巴沙在世的日子常常交战。以色列王巴沙上来攻击犹大，修筑拉玛，不许人从犹大王亚撒那里出入。于是亚撒把耶和华殿和王宫府库里所剩下的金银都交在他臣仆手中，派他们到住在大马士革的亚兰王，就是希旬的孙子，他伯利门的儿子便‧哈达那里去，说：“你父曾与我父立约，我与你也要这样立约。看哪，我把金银送给你作礼物，请你废掉你与以色列王巴沙所立的约，使他从我这里撤退。”便‧哈达听从了亚撒王，就派遣他的军官去攻打以色列的城镇，攻下了以云、但、亚伯‧伯‧玛迦、全基尼烈、拿弗他利全地。巴沙听见了，就停工不修筑拉玛，仍住在得撒。于是亚撒王向犹大众人宣布，不准任何人推辞，吩咐他们运走巴沙修筑拉玛所用的石头和木料。亚撒王用它们来修筑便雅悯的迦巴和米斯巴。亚撒其余的事，他英勇的事迹，凡他所做的，以及他所建筑的城镇，不都写在《犹大列王记》上吗？只是亚撒年老的时候患有脚疾。亚撒与他祖先同睡，与他祖先同葬在大卫城，他儿子约沙法接续他作王。

在耶路撒冷作王三年。他母亲名叫玛迦，是押沙龙的女儿。

你要拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的柱像，砍断他们的亚舍拉。

此外，在伯特利丘坛的坛，就是尼八的儿子耶罗波安所筑、使以色列人陷入罪里的，他也把这坛和丘坛都拆毁了，又焚烧丘坛，打碎成灰，并焚烧了亚舍拉。

他把亚舍拉从耶和华殿里搬到耶路撒冷外的汲沦溪，在汲沦溪边焚烧，打碎成灰，把灰撒在平民的坟上。

拆毁祭坛，把亚舍拉和雕刻的像打碎成灰，砍断以色列全地所有的香坛。于是他回耶路撒冷去了。

若还有人说预言，生他的父母必对他说：‘你不得存活，因为你假借耶和华的名说谎话。’生他的父母在他说预言时，要将他刺死。

他将他们所铸的牛犊用火焚烧，磨得粉碎，撒在水面上，叫以色列人喝。

他对他们说：“耶和华—以色列的上帝这样说：‘你们各人把刀佩在腰间，从这门到那门，来回走遍全营，各人要杀自己的弟兄、邻舍和亲人。’”利未人遵照摩西的话做了。那一天百姓中倒下的约有三千人。

亚撒行耶和华—他上帝眼中看为善为正的事，除掉外邦的祭坛和丘坛，打碎柱像，砍下亚舍拉，吩咐犹大人寻求耶和华—他们列祖的上帝，遵行他的律法和诫命，又在犹大各城镇除掉丘坛和香坛。在他治理下，国中太平。

“你的同胞兄弟，或是你的儿女，或是你怀中的妻，或是如同自己性命的朋友，若暗中引诱你，说：‘我们去事奉别神吧。’那是你和你列祖所不认识的，你四围列国的神明，无论是离你近或离你远，从地这边到地那边，你都不可附和他，也不要听从他。你的眼不可顾惜他，不可怜悯他，也不可袒护他。

你们却要这样处置他们：拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的柱像，砍断他们的亚舍拉，用火焚烧他们雕刻的偶像。

犹大列王在亚哈斯楼房顶上所筑的坛和玛拿西在耶和华殿两院中所筑的坛，王都拆毁，从那里移走，把灰倒在汲沦溪中。

所以，从今以后，我们不再按照人的看法来认识人，纵使我们曾经按照人的看法认识基督，如今却不再这样认识他了。

我把那使你们犯罪所铸的牛犊拿来，用火焚烧，捣碎后再磨成粉末，好像灰尘。我把这灰尘撒在从山上流下来的溪水中。

关于自己的父母，他说：我未曾关注。他的弟兄，他不承认，他的儿女，他也不认识，因为利未人遵行你的话，谨守你的约。

那时，耶稣的母亲和他兄弟来，站在外边，打发人去叫他。有许多人在耶稣周围坐着，他们就告诉他说：“看哪！你母亲、你兄弟和你姊妹在外边找你。”耶稣回答他们：“谁是我的母亲？谁是我的兄弟？”就环视那周围坐着的人，说：“看哪，我的母亲，我的兄弟！凡遵行上帝旨意的人就是我的兄弟姊妹和母亲。”

耶稣的家人听见，就出来要拉住他，因为他们说他癫狂了。

我要摧毁你们的丘坛，砍掉你们的香坛，把你们的尸首扔在你们偶像的残骸上。我的心也必厌恶你们，

你们要用火焚烧他们神明的雕刻偶像；不可贪爱偶像上的金银，也不可私自收起来，免得你因此陷入圈套，因为这是耶和华—你上帝所憎恶的。你不可把可憎之物带进你的家，否则，你就像它一样成为当毁灭的。你要彻底憎恨它，极其厌恶它，因为这是当毁灭的。”
