King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

亞撒還廢除了他祖母瑪迦的太后之位，因為她造了可憎的亞舍拉神像。亞撒把她的神像砍倒，放在汲淪溪燒掉。雖然他沒有拆毀邱壇，但他一生忠於耶和華。他又把他父親和他自己所獻上的金銀和器皿都帶到耶和華的殿裡。亞撒和以色列王巴沙之間常有爭戰。以色列王巴沙上來攻打猶大，他修築拉瑪城，企圖隔斷猶大王亞撒與外界的聯繫。於是，亞撒把耶和華殿裡和王宮庫房裡剩餘的金銀交給臣僕，派他們送給大馬士革的亞蘭王，即他伯利們的兒子、希旬的孫子便·哈達，說：「我們之間應立盟約，像我們的父親之間立約一樣，現在奉上金銀為禮，請你取消與以色列王巴沙立的盟約。這樣，他就會從我境內退兵。」便·哈達接受了亞撒王的提議，派將領攻打以色列的城邑，攻佔了以雲、但、亞伯·伯·瑪迦、基尼烈全境和拿弗他利全境。巴沙聞訊，就停止修築拉瑪，退回得撒去了。亞撒王令全國的猶大人出動，將巴沙修築拉瑪城的石頭和木材搬走，用來修建便雅憫的迦巴和米斯巴。亞撒其他的事蹟、功業和他興建的城邑都記在猶大的列王史上。亞撒年老的時候，患了腳疾。他與祖先同眠後，葬在大衛城他的祖墳裡。他兒子約沙法繼位。

他在耶路撒冷執政三年，母親是押沙龍的女兒瑪迦。

他將亞舍拉神像從耶和華的殿裡搬到耶路撒冷城外汲淪溪旁燒掉，磨成灰撒在平民的墳墓上。

他拆毀祭壇和亞舍拉神像，把偶像磨成粉末，砍掉以色列境內所有的香壇，然後回到耶路撒冷。

若有人再說預言，他的親生父母必對他說，『你不得活命，因為你奉耶和華的名說謊。』他說預言的時候，他的親生父母必把他刺死。

又把他們鑄造的牛犢熔化掉，磨成粉末撒在水面上，叫以色列百姓喝。

摩西對他們說：「以色列的上帝耶和華這樣說，『你們各人帶著刀，從這個門到那個門，走遍整個營，不論遇見的是兄弟、夥伴還是鄰居，只管殺他們。』」利未人便照摩西的話去做。那一天，約有三千人被殺。

亞撒做他的上帝耶和華看為好、視為正的事，拆除外族神明的邱壇和神廟，打碎神柱，砍倒亞舍拉神像，命令猶大人尋求他們祖先的上帝耶和華，遵行祂的律法和誡命。他除掉猶大各城邑的邱壇和香壇，那時國中太平。

「如果你們的兄弟、兒女、愛妻或摯友引誘你們去拜你們和你們祖先都不認識的神明，引誘你們去拜你們周圍各族的神明，或在附近或遠在天邊，你們不可遷就、聽從他們，不可憐惜他們，不可放過或包庇他們。

你們要拆毀他們的祭壇，打碎他們的神柱，砍下他們的亞舍拉神像，焚燒他們的偶像。

他推倒猶大各王在亞哈斯樓頂上建造的祭壇，摧毀瑪拿西在耶和華殿的兩個院子裡所築的祭壇，把它們打碎，把灰丟進汲淪溪。

從今以後，我們不再以貌取人了，雖然我們曾這樣看待基督，現在卻不再這樣看待祂了。

我焚燒了你們鑄造的罪惡之物——牛犢像，把它磨成細粉，撒在從山上流下來的溪水中。

為了聽從你的話，遵守你的約，他們不畏冒犯父母，捨棄弟兄，拋下兒女。

這時候，耶穌的母親和兄弟來了，他們站在外面，託人叫耶穌。有許多人圍坐在耶穌身邊，他們告訴祂說：「看啊！你的母親和兄弟在外面找你。」耶穌說：「誰是我的母親？誰是我的弟兄？」然後祂望著周圍坐著的人說：「看啊！我的母親、我的弟兄在這裡。凡遵行上帝旨意的人就是我的弟兄、姊妹和母親。」

祂的親屬聽見這個消息，就出來要拉住祂，因為人們說祂瘋了。

我要毀滅你們的邱壇，拆掉你們的香壇，把你們的屍體堆在你們毫無氣息的神像上。我厭惡你們。

你們要燒毀他們的神像，不可貪圖神像上的金銀，不可將那些金銀據為己有，免得你們因此陷入網羅；因為那是你們的上帝耶和華所憎惡的。不可把可憎之物帶到家裡，否則你們會像它們一樣被毀滅。你們要極其憎惡、厭棄它們，因為它們是當毀滅之物。
