亞撒呼求耶和華他的神說：“耶和華啊，強弱懸殊，除你以外沒有別的幫助。耶和華我們的神啊，求你幫助我們。因為我們倚靠你，奉你的名去對抗這大軍。耶和華啊，你是我們的神，不要讓人勝過你。”

艾城的人轉身觀看，看見城裡濃煙沖天，就全身乏力，不能逃跑；往曠野逃跑的以色列人就轉過來攻擊追趕他們的人。

眾戰車隊長看見約沙法，就都心裡說：“這必是以色列王。”於是都繞過去攻擊他。約沙法呼救，耶和華就幫助他；神又使敵人離開他。

以色列眾人都從自己的地方起來，在巴力．他瑪列陣；以色列的伏兵，從基比亞西邊埋伏的地方衝出來。全以色列中的精兵，有一萬人前來攻打基比亞，戰爭非常激烈；便雅憫人還不知道災禍快要臨到他們的身上了。耶和華在以色列人面前擊敗了便雅憫人；那天以色列人消滅便雅憫人，共二萬五千一百名，都是拿刀的。這樣，便雅憫人就看出自己被擊敗了。原來以色列人倚靠在基比亞前面設下的伏兵，就對便雅憫人詐敗。伏兵急忙衝入基比亞，用刀擊殺了全城的人。以色列人與伏兵預先約定，就是從城裡放火，以煙氣上升為號。以色列人在戰場上撤退的時候，便雅憫人就動手殺人，刺死以色列人約三十個，心裡說：“他們真的像頭一次戰陣一樣，在我們面前被擊敗了。”當煙柱信號從城中上升的時候，便雅憫人就轉身觀看，只見全城煙火沖天。那時，以色列人又轉身回來，便雅憫人就非常驚慌，因為看見災禍臨到自己身上了。他們在以色列人面前轉身，向曠野的路上逃走，戰爭卻緊隨著他們；那些從各城裡出來的人也在他們中間消滅他們。以色列人包圍了便雅憫人，從挪哈（《馬索拉文本》意思不明確，“從挪哈”或譯﹕“在他們歇息之地”﹔現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯）追趕他們，踐踏他們，直到基比亞（“基比亞”或作“迦巴”）對面日出之處。

在患難的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”

亞捫人出來，在城門前擺陣，瑣巴和利合的亞蘭人，陀伯人和瑪迦人，也分別在郊野擺陣。約押看見自己前後受敵，就從以色列所有的精兵中，挑選一部分出來，使他們擺陣去迎戰亞蘭人，他把其餘的人交在他兄弟亞比篩手下，使他們擺陣去迎戰亞捫人。約押對亞比篩說：“如果亞蘭人比我強，你就來幫助我。如果亞捫人比你強，我就去幫助你。你要剛強；為了我們的人民和我們神的眾城鎮，我們要剛強！願耶和華成全他看為美的事。”於是約押和與他在一起的人前進，攻擊亞蘭人；亞蘭人在約押面前逃跑。亞捫人看見亞蘭人逃跑，他們也在亞比篩面前逃跑，逃進城裡去了。約押就從亞捫人那裡回來，回到耶路撒冷去了。

你不必害怕黑夜的驚恐，或是白日的飛箭；

法老走近的時候，以色列人舉目觀看，看見埃及人正追趕過來，就非常懼怕，向耶和華呼求。
