這事以後，耶羅波安還不從他的惡道轉回，竟然把平民立為邱壇的祭司；願意的，他都把他們分別為聖，立他們為邱壇的祭司。

他們獻祭給鬼魔（他們不是神），就是他們從來不認識的神，是近來新興的，是你們的列祖所不懼怕的。

耶羅波安在邱壇那裡建殿，把不是利未子孫的平民立為祭司。

亞倫從他們手中接過來，用雕刻的工具雕刻，鑄造了一個牛像；他們就說：“以色列啊，這就是你們的神，就是把你從埃及地領出來的那位。”亞倫看見了，就在牛像面前築了一座祭壇，並且宣告，說：“明日是耶和華的節日。”次日清早，人民起來，就獻上了燔祭，也帶來了平安祭；然後他們坐下吃喝，起來玩樂。耶和華對摩西說：“你下山去吧，因為你的人民，就是你從埃及地領出來的，已經敗壞了。他們很快就偏離了我吩咐他們的道路，為自己鑄造了一個牛像，向它跪拜，向它獻祭，說：‘以色列啊，這就是你的神，就是把你從埃及地領出來的那位。’”

於是，摩西回到耶和華那裡，說：“唉，這人民犯了大罪，為自己做了金神像。

現在他們犯罪越來越多，為自己做鑄像，按著自己的技巧，用自己的銀子做偶像；這些都是匠人的手工。他們論到這些說：“向偶像獻祭的人，可以親吻牛犢。”

聖靈明明地說，日後必有人離棄信仰，跟從虛謊的邪靈和鬼魔的教訓。

他們在何烈山做了牛犢，敬拜鑄成的偶像。這樣，他們用吃草的牛的像，代替了他們的榮耀的神。

他們原是鬼魔的靈，施行奇事；牠們到普天下的眾王那裡去，叫他們在全能神的大日聚集作戰。

撒瑪利亞啊！我要除掉你的牛犢，我的怒氣要向撒瑪利亞人發作，他們要到幾時才能無罪免罰呢？這牛犢是出於以色列，是匠人所做的，它並不是神，撒瑪利亞的牛犢必被粉碎。

你反倒行惡，比那些在你以前的更壞；又去為自己製造了別的神和鑄造偶像惹我發怒，把我丟在背後。

我是說，教外人所祭的是鬼，不是獻給神；我卻不願意你們與鬼來往。你們不能喝主的杯又喝鬼的杯，你們不能參加主的筵席又參加鬼的筵席。
