The young men who had grown up with him replied,“ The people have said to you,‘ Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

The young men replied,“ This is what you should tell those complainers who want a lighter burden:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist!

And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

Then the young men who had grown up with him told him,“ This is what you should say to the people who said to you,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but you, make it lighter on us!’ This is what you should say to them:‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou[ it] somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little[ finger] shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

The young advisers with whom Rehoboam had grown up said to him,“ Say this to these people who have said to you,‘ Your father made us work hard, but now lighten our burden’– say this to them:‘ I am a lot harsher than my father!

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying,“ Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying,‘ Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them,‘ My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

智慧人含蓄着知識；愚妄人的口催促着敗落。

瑣安的首領極其愚昧，法老大有智慧的謀士所設的乃是畜類無知的計謀。你們怎敢對法老說：『我是智慧人的兒子，我是古時君王的子孫』呢？那麼你的智慧人在哪裏呢？萬軍之永恆主對責罰埃及所定的旨意、他們儘可以告訴你，儘可以播知出來呀。瑣安的首領很愚昧，挪弗的首領受欺哄；埃及族派的中堅人物使埃及人走迷了路。

精明人都憑知識而行事；愚頑人播揚自己的愚妄。

愚頑人的嘴脣引起吵鬧；他的口舌招惹笞打。愚頑人的口舌乃他敗落的因由；他的嘴脣是捉拿自己的網羅。

那些跟他一齊長大的少年人對他說：『這人民對王說：「你父親使我們負的軛很重，你呢，你使我們輕鬆些吧」：王要對他們這麼說：「我的小拇指比我父親的腰還粗呢。我父親將負的軛給你們馱上，現在呢、我要加重你們的軛呢；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我卻要用蠍子鞭責打你們呢。」』

人的驕傲必使他降為卑微；心裏謙卑的、必獲得尊榮。

貪慾勃勃的惹起紛爭；倚靠永恆主的、必得豐裕。

沒有智慧、沒有明達、沒有謀略能敵得過永恆主。

戶篩對押沙龍說：『亞希多弗這次所定的計謀並不好。』戶篩說：『你知道你父親和跟隨他的人都是勇士；現在他們心裏有苦恨，如同野地裏丟崽子的母熊一樣；並且你父親是個戰士，必不和眾民一同過夜。看哪，現在他或者藏在坑中，或者在另一處；他們中間若有首先倒斃的，能聽見的人總會聽見，總會說：「在跟從押沙龍的眾民中有被擊殺的了。」這時就使有英勇的人、膽大如獅心，也一定會溶化的；因為以色列眾人都知道你父親是個英雄，而跟從他的也都是英勇的人。依我的計謀，不如將以色列眾人、從但直到別是巴、如同海邊的沙那麼多、全都聚集到你這裏來；你就親自在他們中間行軍。這樣、我們無論在哪一個地方發現了他，就突然臨到他，無聲無闃地襲擊他，如同露水下在地上一樣；連他帶跟隨的眾人、一個也不留下。他若收軍退到一座城裏，以色列眾人就要帶繩子去、到城那裏，將城拉到河裏，甚至連一塊小石頭再也找不着。』

智慧人戰戰兢兢、遠離禍患；愚頑人任性奔放，漫不在乎。
