But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

對於已亡之人、勿過於哀傷、一如未具望德者之所為；此吾不欲兄弟之不知也。

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know what happens to those who die. We don’t want you to mourn, as other people do. They mourn because they don’t have any hope.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope.

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope.

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame[ and] everlasting contempt.

And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as[ they were] from the beginning of the creation.

And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

And devout men carried Stephen[ to his burial], and made great lamentation over him.

So David slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David.

For I know[ that] my redeemer liveth, and[ that] he shall stand at the latter[ day] upon the earth:And[ though] after my skin[ worms] destroy this[ body], yet in my flesh shall I see God:Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another;[ though] my reins be consumed within me.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth.And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.

Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts.

For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive[ and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

Ye[ are] the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.For thou[ art] an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that[ are] upon the earth.

And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day[ is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you,( but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.

Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.

Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I[ am] the LORD.

For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not[ thy] lips, and eat not the bread of men.So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed[ himself], and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

Now concerning spiritual[ gifts], brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

And the king was much moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept: and as he went, thus he said, O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!

And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
