Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.

Brothers and sisters, we want you to know what happens to those who die. We don’t want you to mourn, as other people do. They mourn because they don’t have any hope.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.

當時爾與基督相隔、與以色列民相異、外乎應許諸約、無有所望、在世無上帝、

長眠於塵土者、多有復醒、得永生者有之、蒙羞而受永辱者有之、

謂降臨之許安在、自列祖寢時、萬物與初創無異、

又跪而大呼曰、主乎、勿以此罪歸之、言畢而寢、掃羅亦悅其死、

彼為我死、使我或寤或寢、偕彼而生、

言竟、又曰、我儕之友拉撒路寢矣、我往寤之、門徒曰、主、寢則將愈矣、耶穌此言、乃指其死、門徒意其謂安寢也、

又同時見於兄弟五百餘人、其中雖有已寢者、然強半猶存焉、

夫大衛在其世、行上帝之旨、既寢、歸其列祖而朽壞、

有敬虔者、葬司提反、為之拊膺大哭、

大衛與列祖偕眠、葬於大衛城、

我知我之救者維生、終必立於地上、我膚敗後、尚於形軀之外、得覲上帝、我將親見之、目睹之、非外人見之、我心乃消於中矣、

惡人遇難而見仆、義者臨死而有託、

眾哭之慟、耶穌曰、毋哭、女非死、寢耳、眾知其已死、哂之、

主諭我曰、人子歟、此骨即以色列全家、彼曰、我骨已枯、我望已失、我悉滅絕、

我以主言告爾、迨主臨時、我儕生存者、不先乎已寢者、

爾曹皆爾上帝耶和華之子、毋為死者割肉薙額、蓋爾乃爾上帝耶和華之聖民、耶和華於天下萬民中、特選爾為己民、○

墓啟、既逝之聖、其身多有復起者、

其宗基督而已寢者、亦淪亡焉、若我儕望於基督者、第在今生、則較眾尤可憫也、○

愛友乎、勿忘斯事、在主一日猶千年、千年猶一日、

兄弟乎、我願爾知、我每立志就爾、欲於爾中得果、如在他邦然、但至今仍有所阻、

不然、則我主我王、與列祖偕眠時、我與我子所羅門、必視為罪人矣、○

馬大曰、我知末日復起時、彼亦復起、

勿為死者割肉、勿黥爾身、我乃耶和華也、

兄弟乎、我欲爾知、我在亞西亞遭難、見壓特甚、勢不克勝、至絕生望、

兄弟乎、我欲爾知、昔我列祖皆在雲下、徑行海中、

人子歟、爾目所慕者、我必猝然去之、爾勿悲、勿哭、勿下淚、爾欷歔、勿揚聲、勿為死者治喪、首仍束巾、足仍著履、勿掩爾口、勿食人之所供、我朝與民言、夕而妻死、詰朝、我循命而行、

子女羣來相慰、父不受慰、曰、我必悲哀至於陰府、就子乃已、父之痛子如此、

大衛見僕切切私語、知子已死、問僕曰、子死乎、曰、死矣、大衛自地而起、沐浴、膏身、更衣、入耶和華室而崇拜、回宮命具饌、則設席而食、

兄弟乎、論及神貺、我不欲爾不知、

王慟甚、登門樓而哭、且行且言曰、我子押沙龍、我子、我子押沙龍、我願代爾死、押沙龍我子、我子、
