We were not expecting people to praise us. We were not looking for praise from you or anyone else. Yet as Christ’s apostles, we could have used our authority over you.

We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority.

Nor did we seek glory from people, whether from you or from others, though we could have made demands as apostles of Christ.

As for human praise, we have never sought it from you or anyone else.

and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.

nor did we seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though we could have asserted our authority as apostles of Christ.

Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

nor seeking glory of men, neither from you nor from others, when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

and we didn’t seek glory from people, either from you or from others.

Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor[ yet] of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

nor to seek glory from people, either from you or from others,

nor seeking glory from men( neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ.

You accept praise from one another. But you do not seek the praise that comes from the only God. So how can you believe?

“ I do not accept praise from human beings.

Because of the authority Christ has given me, I could be bold. I could order you to do what you should do anyway.But we love each other. And I would rather appeal to you on the basis of that love. I, Paul, am an old man. I am now also a prisoner because of Christ Jesus.

Am I now trying to get people to think well of me? Or do I want God to think well of me? Am I trying to please people? If I were, I would not be serving Christ.

Brothers and sisters, I am sure you remember how hard we worked. We labored night and day while we preached to you God’s good news. We didn’t want to cause you any expense.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Haven’t I seen Jesus our Lord? Aren’t you the result of my work for the Lord?Others may not think of me as an apostle. But I am certainly one to you! You are the proof that I am the Lord’s apostle.

Others have the right to receive help from you. Don’t we have even more right to do so? But we didn’t use that right. No, we have put up with everything. We didn’t want to keep the good news of Christ from spreading.People who serve in the temple get their food from the temple. Don’t you know this? People who serve at the altar eat from what is offered on the altar. Don’t you know this?So those who preach the good news should also receive their living from their work. That is what the Lord has commanded.But I haven’t used any of those rights. And I’m not writing because I hope you will do things like that for me. I would rather die than allow anyone to take away my pride in my work.But when I preach the good news, I can’t brag. I have to preach it. How terrible it will be for me if I do not preach the good news!If I preach because I want to, I get a reward. If I preach because I have to, I’m only doing my duty.Then what reward do I get? Here is what it is. I am able to preach the good news free of charge. And I can do this without using all my rights as a person who preaches the good news.

The message we preach is not about ourselves. Our message is about Jesus Christ. We say that he is Lord. And we say that we serve you because of Jesus.

Don’t we have the right to eat and drink?Don’t we have the right to take a believing wife with us when we travel? The other apostles do. The Lord’s brothers do. Peter does.Or are Barnabas and I the only ones who have to do other work for a living? Are we the only ones who can’t just do the work of apostles all the time?

Christ is humble and free of pride. Because of this, I make my appeal to you. I, Paul, am the one you call“ shy” when I am face to face with you. But when I am away from you, you think I am“ bold” toward you.I am coming to see you. Please don’t make me be as bold as I expect to be toward some people. They think that I live the way the people of this world live.

He said,“ Isn’t this the great Babylon I have built as a place for my royal palace? I used my mighty power to build it. It shows how glorious my majesty is.”

Some say,“ His letters sound important. They are powerful. But in person he doesn’t seem like much. And what he says doesn’t amount to anything.”People like that have a lot to learn. What I say in my letters when I’m away from you, I will do in my actions when I’m with you.

He bragged to them about how rich he was. He talked about how many sons he had. He spoke about all the ways the king had honored him. He bragged about how the king had given him a high position. It was higher than the position of any of the other nobles and officials.

Now we really live, because you are standing firm in the Lord.How can we thank God enough for you? We thank God because of all the joy we have in his presence. We have this joy because of you.

It isn’t good for you to eat too much honey. And you shouldn’t try to search out matters too deep for you.

That’s why I write these things before I come to you. Then when I do come, I won’t have to be hard on you when I use my authority. The Lord gave me the authority to build you up. He didn’t give it to me to tear you down.

They loved praise from people more than praise from God.

Every day for 180 days he showed his guests the great wealth of his kingdom. He also showed them how glorious his kingdom was.

We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. And so we are formed into one body. It didn’t matter whether we were Jews or Gentiles, slaves or free people. We were all given the same Spirit to drink.So the body is not made up of just one part. It has many parts.Suppose the foot says,“ I am not a hand. So I don’t belong to the body.” By saying this, it cannot stop being part of the body.

Even those who are circumcised don’t obey the law. But they want you to be circumcised. Then they can brag about what has been done to your body.

Let us not become proud. Let us not make each other angry. Let us not want what belongs to others.

The elders who do the church’s work well are worth twice as much honor. That is true in a special way of elders who preach and teach.

Whoever speaks on their own does it to get personal honor. But someone who works for the honor of the one who sent him is truthful. Nothing about him is false.

Also, man was not created for woman. Woman was created for man.
