For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,

爾知我勸慰、丁寧爾眾、猶父之勵厥子、

爾亦知我儕勤勉安慰爾中各人、如父於子然、

蓋爾等固知我等待爾人人、一如為父者之待其子、獎掖慰勉、耳提面命、

You know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children.

For you know how, like a father with his children,

And you know that we treated each of you as a father treats his own children.

As you know, like a father with his own children,

just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,

as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children,

as ye know how we dealt with each one of you, as a father with his own children, exhorting you, and encouraging you, and testifying,

As you know, like a father with his own children,

As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father[ doth] his children,

As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his own children,

As you know, we exhorted, comforted, and implored every one of you, as a father does his own children,

I am writing this not to shame you but to warn you as my dear children.Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.

As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage— with great patience and careful instruction.

Instead, we were like young children among you. Just as a nursing mother cares for her children,

“ And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.

Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence.

The Lord said to Moses,“ Now the day of your death is near. Call Joshua and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, where I will commission him.” So Moses and Joshua came and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.

David also said to Solomon his son,“ Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.

Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.For I too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother.Then he taught me, and he said to me,“ Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live.Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you.She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many.I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths.When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.

The sayings of King Lemuel— an inspired utterance his mother taught him.Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb! Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers!Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings.It is not for kings, Lemuel— it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer,lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights.Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish!Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say.

In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you

my son, do not go along with them, do not set foot on their paths;

Similarly, encourage the young men to be self-controlled.

So they sent word to Joseph, saying,“ Your father left these instructions before he died:‘ This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.

Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat.

But commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he will lead this people across and will cause them to inherit the land that you will see.”

Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers. Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare of their slaves. These are the things you are to teach and insist on.

So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

“ Now, my son, the Lord be with you, and may you have success and build the house of the Lord your God, as he said you would.May the Lord give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the Lord your God.Then you will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the Lord gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.

My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you,

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,

Give the people these instructions, so that no one may be open to blame.

My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you.

Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them,

My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have shaken hands in pledge for a stranger,

My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.

My son, pay attention to my wisdom, turn your ear to my words of insight,that you may maintain discretion and your lips may preserve knowledge.

He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece,

Brothers and sisters, I urge you to bear with my word of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you quite briefly.

These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
