When they said,“ Give us a king to judge us,” Samuel considered their demand sinful, so he prayed to the Lord.

But when they said,“ Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.

Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance.

Isn’t the wheat harvest today? I will call on the Lord and He will send thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you committed in the Lord’s sight by requesting a king for yourselves.”

Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.

They, however, were filled with rage and started discussing with one another what they might do to Jesus.During those days He went out to the mountain to pray and spent all night in prayer to God.

When I heard this report, I tore my tunic and robe, pulled out some of the hair from my head and beard, and sat down devastated.Everyone who trembled at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me, because of the unfaithfulness of the exiles, while I sat devastated until the evening offering.At the evening offering, I got up from my humiliation, with my tunic and robe torn. Then I fell on my knees and spread out my hands to Yahweh my God.

Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

In return for my love they accuse me, but I continue to pray.

Now if You would only forgive their sin. But if not, please erase me from the book You have written.”

But Moses and Aaron fell facedown and said,“ God, God of the spirits of all flesh, when one man sins, will You vent Your wrath on the whole community?”

Then Moses became angry and said to the Lord,“ Don’t respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them or mistreated a single one of them.”

Then Moses told Aaron,“ Take your firepan, place fire from the altar in it, and add incense. Go quickly to the community and make atonement for them, because wrath has come from the Lord; the plague has begun.”

Then Moses asked Aaron,“ What did these people do to you that you have led them into such a grave sin?”
