Then Samuel took a suckling lamb and sacrificed it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. He cried out to the Lord on Israel’s behalf, and the Lord answered him.

城裏的人清早起來，看哪，巴力的壇被拆毀，壇旁的亞舍拉被砍下，第二頭公牛獻在築好的壇上，

車到了伯‧示麥人約書亞的田間，就在那裏停了。在那裏有一塊大磐石，他們把車的木頭劈了，把兩頭母牛獻給耶和華為燔祭。利未人將耶和華的約櫃和櫃子旁邊裝金器的匣子拿下來，放在大磐石上。當日伯‧示麥人獻上燔祭，又獻其他祭物給耶和華。

撒母耳說：「我怎麼能去呢？掃羅一聽見，就會殺我。」耶和華說：「你可以手裏牽一頭小母牛去，說：『我來是要向耶和華獻祭。』

以利亞對眾百姓說：「你們到我這裏來。」眾百姓就到他那裏，他把那已經毀壞了的耶和華的壇修好。以利亞按照雅各子孫支派的數目，取了十二塊石頭；耶和華的話曾臨到雅各，說：「你的名要叫以色列。」以利亞用這些石頭為耶和華的名築一座壇，在壇的四圍挖溝，可容納二細亞穀種。他又在壇上擺好了柴，把牛犢切成小塊放在柴上，說：「你們用四個桶盛滿水，倒在燔祭和柴上。」他又說：「倒第二次。」他們就倒第二次。他又說：「倒第三次。」他們就倒第三次。水流到壇的四圍，溝裏也滿了水。到了獻晚祭的時候，先知以利亞近前來，說：「耶和華－亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝啊，求你今日使人知道你是以色列的上帝，我是你的僕人，我遵照你的話做這一切事。求你應允我，耶和華啊，應允我，使這百姓知道你－耶和華是上帝，是你叫他們回心轉意的。」於是，耶和華降下火來，燒盡燔祭、木柴、石頭、塵土，又燒乾了溝裏的水。

她們回答說：「有的，看哪，他就在你們前面。快！他今日正來到城裏，因為今日百姓要在丘壇獻祭。

你要在我以先下到吉甲。看哪，我必下到你那裏獻燔祭和平安祭。你要等候七日，等我到你那裏指示你當做的事。」

在這堡壘頂上整整齊齊地為耶和華－你的上帝築一座壇，將第二頭公牛獻為燔祭，用你所砍下的亞舍拉當柴。」
