When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader of Israel at Mizpah.

When the people had come together at Mizpah, they went to the well and got water. They poured it out in front of the Lord. On that day they didn’t eat any food. They admitted they had sinned. They said,“ We’ve sinned against the Lord.” Samuel was serving as the leader of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord and fasted on that day and said there,“ We have sinned against the Lord.” And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah.

So they gathered at Mizpah and, in a great ceremony, drew water from a well and poured it out before the Lord. They also went without food all day and confessed that they had sinned against the Lord.( It was at Mizpah that Samuel became Israel’s judge.)

確實我們都會死去，如同潑在地上的水不能收回，但神不是要取人性命，而是要想出方法不讓流亡者一直被驅逐而遠離他。

哈娜回答說：「我主啊，不是這樣的，我是個心靈苦痛的婦人。淡酒和烈酒，我都沒有喝；我是在耶和華面前傾心吐意。

我們與我們的祖先一同犯了罪，我們行事扭曲，做事邪惡。

我的眼睛淚流成河，因為人們不遵守你的律法。

我要起來，到我父親那裡去，對他說：『父親，我對天犯了罪，也在你面前犯了罪。

你們作子民的，要時時依靠他，在他面前傾心吐意，神是我們的避難所！細拉

我晝夜以眼淚為食；人們終日對我說：「你的神在哪裡呢？」

我因嘆息而困乏；每個夜晚，我的淚水使我的床榻漂浮，使我的床鋪浸透。

因你的憤怒，我的肉體無一處健全；因我的罪過，我的骨頭沒有安寧；我的罪孽高過我的頭，過於沉重，如同重擔。因我的愚妄，我的傷口發臭腐爛；我屈身彎腰，低到極處，終日在哀痛中行走；因為我的腰滿是灼痛，我的肉體無一處健全。我失去知覺，全然被壓碎，我因內心掙扎而呻吟。

於是我轉向主耶和華，以禱告、懇求、禁食、披麻蒙灰來尋求他。我向耶和華我的神禱告、認罪，說：「哦，主啊，大而可畏的神，你向那些愛你並遵守你誡命的人持守你的約和慈愛！我們犯了罪，行事扭曲，作惡背叛，偏離了你的誡命和法規，

耶和華的話語第二次臨到約拿，說：「起來！到尼尼微大城去，向那城宣告我告訴你的信息！」約拿照著耶和華的話就起身，到尼尼微去。尼尼微是一座超級大城，走遍它需要三天的路程。約拿開始進入那城，走了一天的路程，宣告說：「再過四十天，尼尼微就要覆滅了。」尼尼微人就相信神，並宣告禁食，無論尊貴的或卑微的，都披上麻布。這話語傳到尼尼微王的時候，他從自己的寶座上起來，從身上脫下王袍，披上麻布，坐在灰燼中。然後他頒布諭令，說：「在尼尼微，王和大臣有令：『無論人或牲畜，牛或羊，都不可嘗什麼，不可吃什麼，也不可喝水。人和牲畜都當披上麻布；各人都當迫切地向神呼求，從自己邪惡的道路上、自己手裡的殘暴中轉回。或許神會轉回、施憐憫，從他猛烈的怒氣中轉回，使我們不致滅亡。』」神看到他們所行的——從邪惡的道路上轉回了，神就施憐憫，沒有降下原先所說的要降在他們身上的災禍。
