亚吉把大卫叫来，对他说：“我指着永活的耶和华说，你是正直的人，你与我在军中出入，我感到很满意，因为自从你到我这里来的那一天，直到今日，我未曾在你身上找到什么过失；只是各首领不喜欢你。现在，你可以回去，平平安安走吧！不要行非利士人的首领看为恶的事。”

从埃及东面的西曷河，向北直到以革伦的境界（这都算是迦南人的地方），由五个非利士人的首领管辖的迦萨人、亚实突人、亚实基伦人、迦特人、以革伦人的地方；并且有亚卫人，

他们就派人去召集非利士人各城的首领前来，问他们：“我们要怎样处理以色列神的约柜呢？”他们回答：“把以色列神的约柜运到迦特去吧。”他们就把它运到迦特去了。运到那里以后，耶和华的手攻击那城，引起很大的恐慌。他击打全城的人，不分老幼，使痔疮在他们中间蔓延。于是他们把神的约柜送到以革伦。神的约柜到了以革伦的时候，以革伦人就喊叫：“他们把以色列神的约柜运到我们这里来，是要杀害我们和我们的人啊！”于是他们派人去召集非利士人各城的首领前来，对他们说：“请把以色列神的约柜送回原处，免得它杀害我们和我们的人民。”死亡的恐慌笼罩全城，因为神的手重重地压在那里。

非利士人问：“我们应当偿给他什么作赔罪的礼物呢？”他们回答：“要按照非利士人各城首领的数目，用五个金痔疮和五只金老鼠作赔罪的礼物，因为你们所有的人和你们各城的首领所遭遇的，都是一样的灾祸。
