很多人求掌權者的情面，但各人的判決是出於耶和華。

“如果有住在以色列中任何一座城裡的利未人，離開了那裡，一心一意到耶和華選擇的地方去，

惡人看見就惱怒，他必咬牙切齒，身心耗損；惡人的心願必幻滅。

因為傲慢的人（“傲慢的人”有古抄本作“外族人”）起來攻擊我，強橫的人尋索我的性命；他們不把神放在眼裡。（細拉）

後來，押尼珥對大衛說：“讓我去把以色列眾人召集到我主我王這裡來，好叫他們與你立約，這樣你就可以照著自己的心願統治所有的人。”於是大衛打發押尼珥回去，他就平平安安地走了。

於是內務長、市長、長老和亞哈眾子的導師送信給耶戶說：“我們是你的僕人，你吩咐我們的，我們都必照辦；我們也不會立甚麼人作王；你看怎樣好，我們就怎樣作。”於是耶戶寫第二封信給他們說：“如果你們是歸從我，聽我的話的，就要把你們主人的兒子們的頭顱取下，明天大約這個時候，帶來耶斯列給我。”那時，王的七十個兒子是住在撫養他們的城中的大臣那裡。這信到達他們那裡的時候，他們就拿住王的眾子，把這七十人殺了，然後把他們的頭放在籃子裡，送到耶斯列耶戶那裡。
