Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath:“ As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be put to death.”

Saul paid attention to Jonathan. Saul made a promise. He said,“ You can be sure that the Lord lives. And you can be just as sure that David will not be put to death.”

And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”

So Saul listened to Jonathan and vowed,“ As surely as the Lord lives, David will not be killed.”

Saul listened to Jonathan’s advice and swore an oath:“ As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be killed.”

Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul vowed,“ As the Lord lives, David shall not be put to death.”

So Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be killed.”

And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As Jehovah liveth, he shall not be put to death.

怨恨人的用嘴掩飾，心裏卻存着詭詐；他雖說出溫雅的話，你不可信他，因為他心中有七樣可厭惡的；

雖然他們起誓說：「願永活的永恆主」為證，其實他們是起假誓的。

我指着那拯救以色列的永活永恆主來起誓，即使是我兒子約拿單，他也必須死。』眾民中沒有一個人回答他。

掃羅想法子要用矛刺透大衛，給釘在牆上；大衛卻從掃羅面前溜走；掃羅把矛擊進牆內；大衛就逃走躲避了。那一夜掃羅打發差役到大衛的住宅去窺伺他，要在第二天早晨殺死他。大衛的妻子米甲對大衛說：『你今夜若不逃命，明日就會被殺死。』

掃羅指着永恆主向那女人起誓說：『我指着永活的永恆主來起誓，你一定不會因這事而受罪罰的。』

他眼中看匪類當被藐視，但敬畏永恆主的人、他卻尊重；他起了誓，雖自己喫虧、也不更改；
