耶西就派人去叫他回来。他面色红润，眉清目秀，相貌英俊。耶和华说：“就是他，起来膏立他吧。”撒母耳就拿出盛膏油的角，当着他哥哥们的面膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵降在大卫身上。事后，撒母耳回拉玛去了。

“你们进入并占领你们的上帝耶和华将要赐给你们的土地，安顿下来后，就会想立自己的王，像周围的国家一样。那么，你们一定要立你们的上帝耶和华拣选的人；必须立你们的以色列同胞为王，不可立外族人。

她们答道：“他在这里，就在你们前面。你们快去吧，他今天刚到城里来，因为今天人们在丘坛献祭。你们一进城，就会在他上丘坛吃祭物之前遇见他。因为他不来，人们不能吃，他要先为祭物祝谢后，人们才可以吃。你们现在上去吧，一定会遇见他。”

耶稣又用比喻对他们说：“天国就像一个王为儿子筹备婚宴。他派奴仆去请受邀的客人，可是客人都不肯赴宴。王再派其他奴仆去，说，‘去告诉被邀请的人，我的宴席已经备好，公牛和肥畜都宰了，一切都预备妥当，来赴婚宴吧！’
