耶和華對撒母耳說：「我既厭棄掃羅作以色列的王，你為他悲傷要到幾時呢？你將膏油盛滿了角；來，我差遣你到伯利恆人耶西那裏去，因為我在他兒子中已看中了一個為我作王的。」

「我立掃羅為王，我感到遺憾，因為他轉去不跟從我，不遵守我的命令。」撒母耳就很生氣，終夜哀求耶和華。

他也脫了衣服，也在撒母耳面前受感說話，一日一夜赤身躺臥。因此有人說：「掃羅也在先知中嗎？」

耶和華就因造人在地上感到遺憾，心中憂傷。

因為，我屢次告訴你們，現在又流淚告訴你們：許多人行事是基督十字架的仇敵。

我的眼睛流淚成河，因為他們不守你的律法。

我非常憂愁，心裏時常傷痛。為我弟兄，我骨肉之親，就是自己被詛咒，與基督分離，我也願意。

我看見奸惡的人就憎惡，因為他們不遵守你的言語。

但願我的頭為水，我的眼為淚水的泉源，我好為我百姓中被殺的人晝夜哭泣。惟願在曠野有旅客的客棧，我好離開我的百姓而去；因他們全都行姦淫，是行詭詐的一黨。
