而要有蕴藏在人内心不衰退的美，以温柔娴静的心妆饰自己；这在上帝面前是极宝贵的。

要以温柔、娴静这些永不褪色的内在美为妆饰，这是上帝所看重的。

却要在里面存着温柔安静的心灵，作不能毁坏的装饰，这在神面前是极宝贵的。

而应该是心里面内在的人，带着不朽坏的品性，出于谦和、安静的灵；这在神面前是极其贵重的。

乃在溫柔恬靜之性、隱之於心、不可壞者、此在上帝前為至寶、

乃謹內心、其神沖和恬靜、此飾不敝、上帝以之為貴、

惟以藏於心不可壞之善德、即溫和恬靜之性為飾、此在天主前為寶也、

Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

Instead, your beauty comes from inside you. It is the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. Beauty like this doesn’t fade away. God places great value on it.

but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

爾等既為天主寵愛之子民、亟宜以慈善、謙恭、忍耐為佩、寬容大量、彼此體諒、

惟內心為猶太人、真為猶太人；心靈之割禮、真為割禮。蓋割禮在精神、而不在形式、在取悅於天主、而不在苟合於人耳。

若依吾內心、吾固以天主之法為樂也。

爾其承我之軛、效我之謙遜克己、則爾必得心曠神怡；

勿訕謗勿爭競。待人接物、務宜心氣和平、寬裕溫柔、

尤須寧靜澹泊、安分守己、躬自操作、悉如吾訓。

矇哉法利塞人！爾其先潔杯盤之內、則其外自潔矣。

因此吾人中心不餒；外形雖萎、而靈心則日新又新矣。

爾中如有聰明睿智之人、宜以高尚之德行、及溫和之精神、彰其智慧。若爾心中尚存忌刻好勝之意、則勿自誇為智、以欺真理。此之為智、非自上來、乃出自世俗、血氣與魔鬼耳。蓋一有忌刻好勝之心、則必啟爭端、而生紛亂、放僻邪侈、無不為已。惟智慧之自上來者、本質純粹、故其為德也、和平雍容、溫柔恭順、富於惻隱、多結善果、而無偏激矯情之弊。

謙卑溫恭、足以有容、彼此涵忍於愛德之中；

但須一心仰望基督作爾聖主。人若問爾、何以懷此望德、則侃侃而對、說明緣由；惟亦須以溫和恭敬之態度為之。

無知之人乎、夫彼創造外物者、非即創造內心者乎？

即欲規人之過、亦須平心靜氣、委宛言之、庶幾天主啟牖其衷、俾得領悟大道、

是故爾宜滌瑕盪穢、徹私去蔽、以謙誠溫和之意、領受其所植於爾心田之聖道。惟斯道能全爾靈。

諦羅諸淑女。嘉獻會成行。諦羅諸富人。咸求爾包荒。

棄絕故我、不復沉湎聲色、日趨朽壞。務當以昨死今生之精神、易以新我。新我者、按天主之典型、依仁義之真諦而締造者也。

應知慈悲主。愛悅其子民。尤戀謙卑者。美德飾其身。

佑彼謙誠者。克己而復禮。

並為君王以及所有執政者、祈求、禱告、呼籲、謝恩、庶幾吾人得安居樂業、專心敬事天主。

戰馬徒有力。佳兵安足恃。戰馬與佳兵。皆非主所喜。所喜惟善人。翼翼承甘旨。

茲吾儕憑主耶穌基督、勸誡若輩、安分守己、自謀生計、以糊其口。

蓋爾之新生、非萌自可朽之種子、乃藉永生天主之聖道、而萌於不朽之種子也。

得罪我主。神鑑實明。宜受爾責。宜伏爾懲。

溫恭、克己、凡此種種非律法所能制裁也。

茲者我葆樂本人、欲憑基督之溫柔謙恭、有所求於爾焉。頗聞人言、予與爾相處、晤時則恭、暌時則踞。

耶穌曰：『爾曹希俗取容、矯義人前、而天主固洞悉爾心。應知人之所貴、正天主之所賤也。

溫恭克己乃真福、大地應由彼嗣續。

扶持謙卑者。傾覆傲慢人。

蓋爾已死；爾之生命、與基督同匿於天主懷中。

我心如赤子。乳臭未曾乾。慈母懷中睡。安恬凝一團。

『睹哉西溫女、爾王來就汝。溫恭騎驢背、有𩦺與之俱。』

應知吾人之故我、已與之同釘於十字架上；於是罪孽之身、已蕩然毀滅、而吾人不復為罪孽之奴矣。

欺人之詞、慎莫出諸於口。須知爾已棄絕舊人、及其故態、而易以新人矣。是宜日新又新、止於良知、而克肖作育新人之主也。
