Solomon conscripted the descendants of all these peoples remaining in the land— whom the Israelites could not exterminate— to serve as slave labor, as it is to this day.

They were children of the people who had lived in the land before the Israelites came. Those people had been set apart to the Lord in a special way to be destroyed. But the Israelites hadn’t been able to kill all of them. Solomon forced them to work very hard as his slaves. And they still work for Israel as slaves to this day.

就說：「迦南該受咒詛，必做他弟兄的僕人的僕人。」又說：「閃的上帝耶和華當受稱頌！迦南要做閃的僕人。

以色列人、祭司、利未人、殿役和所羅門僕人的子孫住在猶大各城自己的家中，有些來自猶大和便雅憫的人住在耶路撒冷。以下是住在耶路撒冷的猶大省首領：猶大人中有法勒斯的子孫、烏西雅的兒子亞他雅。烏西雅是撒迦利雅的兒子，撒迦利雅是亞瑪利雅的兒子，亞瑪利雅是示法提雅的兒子，示法提雅是瑪勒列的兒子。

所羅門僕人的子孫有瑣太的子孫、瑣斐列的子孫、比路大的子孫、雅拉的子孫、達昆的子孫、吉德的子孫、示法提雅的子孫、哈替的子孫、玻黑列·哈斯巴音的子孫和亞米的子孫。殿役和所羅門僕人的子孫共三百九十二人。

所羅門僕人的後裔有瑣太的子孫、瑣斐列的子孫、比路大的子孫、

耶和華向他們發怒，說：「這百姓違背了我跟他們祖先所立的約，不聽從我的話。因此，我不再逐出約書亞去世時還沒有趕走的外族人，我要藉此試驗以色列人，看他們是否像他們祖先一樣謹遵我的道。」這就是為什麼耶和華留下那些外族人，沒有立刻把他們趕走，也沒有把他們交在約書亞手中。耶和華為了考驗那些沒有經歷過迦南戰事的以色列人，讓他們學習作戰，就留下了以下各族：

他們答道：「那些地方不夠我們住，何況住在伯·善一帶和耶斯列平原的迦南人都有鐵戰車。」約書亞對約瑟的子孫以法蓮人和瑪拿西人說：「你們人口眾多，勢力強大，不應只得一籤之地，山區也要分給你們，雖然全是森林，但可以開闢土地，使整個地區歸你們。雖然迦南人強盛，有鐵戰車，但你們能夠趕走他們。」

他們沒有照耶和華的命令消滅外族人，反倒與他們混居，仿效他們的習俗，拜他們的神像，陷入網羅。

所羅門徵召勞役興建耶和華的殿、自己的王宮、米羅堡和耶路撒冷的城牆以及夏瑣、米吉多和基色。

所羅門王從以色列徵集了三萬勞工，

瑪拿西人沒有趕走伯·善、他納、多珥、以伯蓮和米吉多眾城邑及周圍村莊的居民，因為這些迦南人執意住在那裡。以色列人強盛時，就強迫他們服勞役，卻沒有全部趕走他們。以法蓮人沒有趕走住在基色的迦南人，這些迦南人仍然住在他們當中。西布倫人沒有趕走基倫和拿哈拉的居民，這些迦南人仍然住在他們當中，為他們服勞役。亞設人沒有趕走亞柯、西頓、亞黑拉、亞革悉、黑巴、亞弗革和利合的居民，於是亞設人住在這些迦南人當中。拿弗他利人沒有趕走伯·示麥和伯·亞納的居民，於是就住在這些迦南人當中，強迫他們服勞役。亞摩利人強迫但人住在山區，不准他們下到平原。亞摩利人執意住在希烈山、亞雅倫和沙賓，但約瑟家族強盛時，就強迫他們服勞役。
