所羅門上到耶和華會幕前面的銅祭壇旁邊，在壇上獻上了一千隻燔祭牲。那一夜，神向所羅門顯現，對他說：“你無論求甚麼，我必賜給你。”所羅門對神說：“你曾經向我的父親大衛大施慈愛，使我接續他作王。耶和華神啊，現在求你實現你向我的父親大衛應許的話；因為你立了我作王統治這好像地上的塵土那麼多的人民。現在求你賜我智慧和知識，使我可以領導這人民；否則，誰能治理你這眾多的人民呢？”神對所羅門說：“你既然有這個心意：不求富足、財產、尊榮，也不求你敵人的性命，又不求長壽，只為自己求智慧和知識，好治理我的子民，就是我立你作王統治的人民，因此，智慧和知識必賜給你，我也把富足、財產和尊榮賜給你；在你以前的列王從沒有這樣，在你以後的也必沒有這樣。”

摩西在曠野所做耶和華的帳幕和燔祭壇，那時都在基遍的高地，

所羅門王獻上了二萬二千頭牛、十二萬隻羊為祭。這樣，王和全體人民為神的殿舉行了奉獻禮。

黎巴嫩的樹林不夠當柴燒，其中的走獸也不夠作燔祭。

我朝見耶和華，在至高的神面前叩拜，當獻上甚麼呢？我朝見他的時候，當獻上燔祭，當獻上一歲的牛犢嗎？耶和華喜悅千千的公羊，或是萬萬的油河嗎？為我的過犯，我可以獻上我的長子嗎？為我的罪惡，獻上我親生的孩子嗎？

耶和華就第二次向所羅門顯現，像先前在基遍向他顯現一樣。

猶大王希西家送給會眾公牛一千頭，羊七千隻；眾領袖也送給會眾公牛一千頭，羊一萬隻；並且有很多祭司自潔。

他們就非常懼怕。因為基遍是大城，好像一座王城；又因為基遍比艾城大，城裡所有的人都是勇士。

基遍的居民聽見了約書亞向耶利哥和艾城所行的事，

會眾帶來的燔祭數目如下：公牛七十頭、公綿羊一百隻、羊羔二百隻。這些都是作燔祭獻給耶和華的。還有分別為聖之物：公牛六百頭、綿羊三千隻。只是祭司太少，不能把所有燔祭牲剝皮，所以他們的親族利未人協助他們，直到剝皮的工作完了，又等到其他祭司自潔完了，因為利未人在自潔的事上比眾祭司更加誠心。此外，還有很多燔祭牲和平安祭牲的脂肪，以及和燔祭同獻的奠祭很多。這樣，耶和華殿裡的事奉就重新恢復了。

所羅門向耶和華獻平安祭，牛二萬二千頭，羊十二萬隻；這樣，王和以色列眾人為耶和華的殿舉行了奉獻典禮。
