He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, because he followed the ways of his father and mother and of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.

Ahaziah did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He lived the way his father and mother had lived. He lived the way Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, had lived. Jeroboam had caused Israel to sin.

Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria, and was injured; so he sent messengers and said to them,“ Go, inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury.”But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite,“ Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them,‘ Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’Now therefore, thus says the Lord:‘ You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’” So Elijah departed.And when the messengers returned to him, he said to them,“ Why have you come back?”So they said to him,“ A man came up to meet us, and said to us,‘ Go, return to the king who sent you, and say to him,“ Thus says the Lord:‘ Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”’ ”Then he said to them,“ What kind of man was it who came up to meet you and told you these words?”

He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother advised him to do wickedly.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

but you have done more evil than all who were before you, for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger, and have cast Me behind your back—therefore behold! I will bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every male in Israel, bond and free; I will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as one takes away refuse until it is all gone.The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Jeroboam and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field; for the Lord has spoken!”’Arise therefore, go to your own house. When your feet enter the city, the child shall die.And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he is the only one of Jeroboam who shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something good toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.“ Moreover the Lord will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam; this is the day. What? Even now!For the Lord will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their wooden images, provoking the Lord to anger.And He will give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who sinned and who made Israel sin.”

He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin.

Nevertheless he persisted in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin; he did not depart from them.

Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said,“ Is it peace, Jehu?” So he answered,“ What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?”

So she went out and said to her mother,“ What shall I ask?” And she said,“ The head of John the Baptist!”

Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him.And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him.Then he set up an altar for Baal in the temple of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.And Ahab made a wooden image. Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel who were before him.

Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!”And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan.He made shrines on the high places, and made priests from every class of people, who were not of the sons of Levi.Jeroboam ordained a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did at Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. And at Bethel he installed the priests of the high places which he had made.So he made offerings on the altar which he had made at Bethel on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had devised in his own heart. And he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and offered sacrifices on the altar and burned incense.
